There are no words to adequately express the grief that all of us at Clovelly feel. We extend our deepest condolences to the Morrison family.

We also want to thank the JPSO and all other agencies that participated in the search for their diligence in making the recovery and helping to provide some measure of closure in this tragic situation.

Yet search continues on shoreline, by air for eighth victim of the fire

Out of an abundance of caution, we have laid protective boom around the platform that was the site of an explosion on Sunday evening. There has been no sign of environmental impact, but the extra measure is in keeping with Clovelly Oil’s long term commitment to responsibility.

We wish to thank the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office office for their continued dedication and commitment to the search and rescue of Tim Morrison. We hope that our prayers and those of his family, friends and co-workers are answered. We’d like to thank the many organizations and people who have worked tirelessly to respond to this incident in its immediate aftermath, those who have provided continuous service by ensuring that the environment was not impacted, those who have regulatory oversight of this incident, and those who are providing the best possible medical care to the 7 people who were injured. The men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Wildlife and Fisheries, the Jefferson Parish President's office, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the KennerPolice department, the Mayor of Kenner's office, multiple fire departments, agencies from neighboring parishes, The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, and private individuals have showed their professionalism and compassion on many levels.

We request, on behalf of our employees and their families, that media refrain from outreach to them during this period of grief and recovery, beyond what is readily accepted by the affected individuals and their families. We are informed that aggressive attempts to interview are creating unnecessary stress for people who are already going through a great deal.

There was a media report last night that implied that Clovelly Oil is not in compliance with EPA reporting requirements. This is errant information and the reporter in question was provided with a copy of the report, the signed receipt of the report (timely filed) on the regulator’s end, and a description of the process for reporting, which was followed.

Clovelly is an established company that has been in the business of oil and gas since the 1970’s. We have a relatively small number of employees; we know one another well and we care about one another and about our contracted employees. This has been a very sad day for all of us.

We have taken the position that, out of respect for the dignity of those who were injured and their families, it is not our place to release their names. It is our understanding that one or more of the regulatory agencies or the Sheriff’s office intend to do so. We can say that four people injured in this incident have been released from the hospital(s), one is still missing, and three are still being treated at area hospitals.

While the cause of the accident is under investigation, we can say that routine maintenance was being conducted on the platform and the flow lines that feed it, specifically cleaning of paraffin from flow lines using steam. Lines from 2 wells had been successfully cleaned and personnel were in the process of cleaning the third (of 3) when the incident occurred. The 3 oil wells were shut in before the cleaning. Clovelly also operated a fourth gas well, which was also shut in immediately after the explosion.
