I've been trying to upload this with my video for the past two weeks. So, here we are because for some reason it wouldn't allow the voice... long post but much needed information!
Here is a picture from the American Heart Association teamed up with the American College of Cardiology. They updated the blood pressure guidelines a few years ago and lowered the threshold for blood pressure, in hopes to get people diagnosed sooner to get them on a healthier path sooner.
High blood pressure is when the force of blood circulating is harder to get through your arteries and/or there is resistance that it meets trying to perfuse the body is too high.
When you are in the elevated range you are to start lifestyle changes:
Diet- decrease salt intake, eat less processed foods, less prepacked foods, exercise 30 minutes daily
Check your blood pressure more often than not
Hypertension is called the silent killer because most people don't know they have it until it's too late: stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, kidney disease.
Stage 2 is when medications are typically started along with lifestyle changes.
The only way to know if you have hypertension is to get your blood pressure checked. See your provider, come see us!
