What's more public health than supporting kids and their mental health? Answer: nothing. That's why when MPH student Allison painted a mural of positive affirmation at her kid's school, she helped make sure that every child entering on their first day was able to "soar above". It looks amazing, Allison!

This summer William Wisen interned with yesterday's student, Rachel, and officially got himself into the rat game. He helped pilot test a trapping study (pictured with an abundance of rat cages), bolster our community outreach program and analyze some data into nice, tidy, easy to communicate figures.

Rachel also wanted everyone to know that "he was the best intern ever" so sorry to everyone else who thought they had that title locked up.

Rachel had a busy summer because besides giving a presentation in Pittsburgh, she also made her way to Paris, where our LSU SPH rat expert found signs after her own heart! "I went to Paris to guest lecture for an undergraduate public health course on environmental health and rodent-borne disease and Paris’ rat problem and the Leptospirosis outbreak that caused a strike in their sanitation workers," she told us. "I’m also featured in a PSA for the Olympics for about 0.2 seconds because I wouldn’t stop talking to their sanitation workers". What a star!

Did you know (and how would you) that PhD student Rachel Denny was named after the environmental health queen, Rachel Carson? Neither did we! During her summer travels, Rachel paid homage to her namesake by visiting a bridge name Carson's name in Pittsburgh.

Rachel (our Rachel, that is) was in town present a multilevel analysis of environmental and social variables contributing to rodent activity in New Orleans neighborhoods at the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) Annual Educational Conference.

The LSU School of Public Health decided to go with some OG, grade-school vibes with our posts this week and asked the students "What did you do over your summer break (with public health)?" and we got some amazing responses.

Take Cecile for instance. "I visited the Broad St pump this summer (AKA the site where epidemiology started) and I'm very ready to brag to the only people who would care about this landmark. You can't actually read the small placard explaining the public health history, unfortunately, but I'm confident that public health nerds will see a pump and the London background (umbrellas) and know what's going on. "
