St. Margaret's at Mercy

St. Margaret's at Mercy Founded in 1889, St. Margaret's is a full-service healthcare provider in New Orleans. Our recently redeveloped flagship facility, St. St. Margaret's at Mercy.

Margaret's at Mercy, is the premier skilled nursing home in New Orleans designed on the household model. Margaret's has been a leading name in New Orleans healthcare since 1931. Now, with our recently-opened site at the former Mercy Hospital, we're ready to add to our legacy. Margaret's at Mercy is designed as a home, not a facility. The beautiful, spacious building allows our residents to enjoy the best care in the city in the most comfortable setting. Our country kitchens, cooked-to-order breakfast and other meals, hearth rooms, spas, hair salon, and lush gardens ensure that our residents are always at home here at St.

Hospice Grant-A-Wish 💕

Helen Louise Whitehead Orgeron was born on July 2, 1923 in Hagerman, Texas. The town no longer exists and is now a national wildlife refuge in Sherman, Texas. She is one of six siblings. Her parents died when she was a teenager and her oldest brother who was 21 at the time and left with the task of raising them, sent her to live with her Aunt Tillie. When she turned 17 she left Texas for California.

She met her husband, Navy, while working in a boarding house in San Diego. He was a tenant and had just been discharged from the Navy. They had two children in California before moving to Louisiana. They had three more children after moving to Louisiana. They built a house in 1956 near Hope Haven in Marrero, a boys home where her husband was raised as both of his parents died before he became a teenager.

Navy learned his trade as a tile man while being raised at Hope Haven. They started a flooring business installing ceramic and marble flooring along with carpet. Helen worked at West Jefferson Hospital and retired from Sears.

Helen's main enjoyment is reading about the Amish culture and romance novels. She also loved gardening and sewing. Her main focus is her family. She enjoyed planning dinners for holidays and often hosted family gatherings of 20 plus. She has 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her advice for living a long life is no smoking, no drinking, and don't worry about the little things.

Her 102nd birthday is July 2nd.
