I find this very very disturbing!!! I find this extremely disturbing. The management of these IDP camps urgently need to be probed in a bid to ensure transparent distribution of food, medications and other relief materials. These are human lives that are being lost.On the other hand, the Government, relief organizations, donor agencies and international partners providing relief materials to these camps in affected states in Nigeria must realize that malnutrition is currently topping the list of medical conditions seen in these camps and should be the focus of aid materials going out to these camps. Thank you so much 'Fisayo Soyombo (The Cable) for an excellent job unraveling and bringing this to the public domain. The least everyone out here can do to help is to SHARE the link to this news until the appropriate authorities see and act on it. It is appaling to know that innocent lives are lost daily (preventable deaths) because of the greed/careless of a few. https://www.thecable.ng/undercover-investigation-borno-children-dying-idp-camps-foodstuffs-disappearing-sema-store

"In SEMA store, you will see bags of beans, rice, sugar, Tuwo Shinkafa, noodles, cloth. But go to IDP camps, you will never find these foodstuffs there.”

Having Watched the movie "Concussion" by Will Smith and having read the biography of Dr Bennet Omalu is such a huge inspiration. Dr Omalu's story lines up with that of most Nigerian doctors who immigrated to the United States. It's interesting to note that I went to the same college and medical school as he did (Federal Government College Enugu and University Of Nigeria). Great man!!! Omalu.. Amazing actor !!!! Smith. I do recognize the impact (brain drain) the absence of numerous progressives as Dr Omalu and I have on Nigeria. That's why I continue to provide virtual support/leadership to affiliated non profits in Nigeria for quality healthcare to the vulnerable and under-served. Though resources are scarce, with a strong will and a committed team, these goals are being met.

This is truely inspiring

We were on ward rounds. We came to this 9yr old Matthias with an "acute abdomen".
He needed immediate surgery.
The dad, hearing that, broke down in tears. He had no money left to fight for his sons life.
If we had to consult with management or look for any other means to assist them financially, it might be late.
I was country director of Dr. RADCLIFF SAVE LIVES FOUNDATION. We have this "save the indegent child (STIC) initiative" that helps under five children. The boy was older than five...
I was moved to assist. I believed I could convince SLF to fund the surgery (as much as possible). So I said to the consultant, "let's go on with the surgery". "Who pays?", he asked.
I told him I belonged to a foundation that tries to care for such children. He sarcastically asked my other colleagues if they didn't belong to any.

The boy was operated on. He got well.
It's been about 2 years but periodically the boy's father calls me and sometimes puts Matthias on the phone, to say they are still grateful...

The truth is, in my short practice so far, there's been a few rich people who may be impressed with my care for them and they may give me gifts; but what I remember more is the joy in the faces of Matthias and his father after he was healed. This kind of care drives me to do my job better.

Thank you SLF for giving me a platform to affect people.
We can do more!
