Sunday yoga reset was a yogi success this week. Energy was great in the studio. Join us next week with Nathalie Croix who will be teaching the class. Each week a different Live Oak Yoga teacher will guide you through flow yoga, shavasana, guided meditation, and journaling, with a soothing cup of tea.

🌿 New on the Schedule: Sunday Yoga Reset 🌿
Join us for Sunday Yoga Reset, a weekly class designed to help you pause, reflect, and step into the new week feeling grounded and clear. Taught by various members of the Live Oak Yoga teaching staff, this class offers a familiar rhythm with fresh energy each week.
🗓 Sundays | 3:30–4:30 PM
This thoughtfully structured hour includes:
• 45 minutes of vinyasa flow to move, breathe, and release the week
• 15 minutes of guided meditation, shavasana and journaling to set intentions and reset your mindset
Please bring your own journal and something to write with. Herbal tea will be provided to enjoy during journaling and reflection.
Whether you’re closing out a busy week or preparing for what’s ahead, Sunday Yoga Reset is your space to slow down, tune in, and start the week feeling balanced and supported

Community at Live Oak Yoga 🌿

Rebecca opened this space with the intention to bring people together through movement and mindfulness. Today, that vision continues to grow. led
Sunday flow in a space where many of us have been practicing side by side for years. We began practicing together with at about a decade ago on magazine street. We gone on trips on together, celebrated birthdays and have witnessed milestones in each others lives.

We’re a strong, caring, and supportive community—and there’s always room for more.

One of the benefits of travel for work is getting to try new yoga studios in other cities. As an experience practitioner of over 25 years, I do find that I often get set in my ways and stuck in some habits. It’s always a treat to do something a little bit different, practice in a different spot in the studio, try a different prop or a different pose. Thank you for a lovely Sunday morning flow!

Rooted in Strength, Evolving with Time 🌿

This stunning petrified Live Oak fossil—on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science—dates back to the Miocene epoch, over 5 million years ago. Preserved in stone through a process called petrification, it’s a symbol of lasting resilience and quiet transformation.

Unlike many trees, the live oak doesn’t go dormant in winter—its growth rings are fewer, but its presence is steady. Just like our practice. Just like you.

Meet Matt - writer, teacher, boxer and yogi. Ten years ago, he herniated discs in his back weightlifting. He was barely mobile but continued yoga.

Matt tried different treatments, hoping to avoid surgery and opioids. He didn’t find much relief so he turned to physical therapy as his last option.

“I noticed in my PT treatment most of the exercises were identical or similar ones to yoga”

Gradually the treatments combined with yoga led to permanent improvement of his back.

“My back feels better than it did BEFORE my herniated discs. Since recovering, I’ve had personal records in 10K races and trained with a boxing coach. I’m in better shape now than I was 10, 15, 20 years ago!” He said

He continues to practice yoga and recently after more than a decade of practice, was able to achieve malasana.

¡Vamos al Chifa!

The word Chifa is unique to the Peruvian vocabulary, and is thought to be derived from the Mandarin “chi fan” which means “to eat”. Though the first Chifas started on Capon Street in Lima’s Chinatown, now there are thousands all over Peru.
Two key ingredients in Peruvian-Chinese cuisine are ginger and soy sauce. So much so, that instead of using the proper spanish words jenjibreand salsa soya, Peruvians use the terms kion and sillao which are likely phonetic corruptions of original words in Mandarin or Cantonese.
