Lillian Roth McCloskey

Lillian Roth McCloskey, affectionately known as "Lil," passed away in her hometown of New Orleans, LA, on June 12, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on April 20, 1942, Lil's life was a tapestry woven with laughter, love, and cherished memories.

Lil dedicated a significant part of her professional journey to the medical field, working as a Medical Transcriptionist for West Jefferson Hospital and Rehab Unit. She later transitioned her career to Hollywood Casino, where her vibrant personality and work ethic shone brightly.

Her family will fondly remember her witty sense of humor, which never failed to bring joy and laughter to those around her. Though she often shied away from the kitchen, Lil mastered three delightful dishes that brought her family together: spaghetti, red beans and rice, and barbecued shrimp. These meals will forever remain a delicious symbol of her nurturing spirit.

In her earlier years, Lil embraced adventures as a scuba diver and golf player. In her later life, she found joy in simpler pastimes, indulging in darts and becoming an avid reader. She deeply loved her time in Bay St. Louis, MS, where she formed enduring friendships and created lasting memories with her family.

Lil is survived by her beloved daughter, Kim Edkins Brooks; and son, Shane Christopher Edkins; her granddaughters, Samantha Brooks Carter and Kayla Gibson; her grandsons, Dean Edkins; Kyle Edkins and Gabriel Edkins, great grandsons, Levi Zachary Favre, Cole Joseph Favre, and Sawyer Brooks Carter; Son-in-law, Stanley Jay Brooks and her sisters, Deborah Roth Kane, and Pamela Roth Fontenot.

Lil now joins her dearly departed family members, including her mother, Luana Brouillette Roth, her father, Joseph Earl Roth, her daughter, Emily Edkins Michel, her brother, George Louis Roth, and Cynthia Roth Bolton.

As we remember Lillian Roth McCloskey, we celebrate a life well-lived — one filled with laughter, love, and enduring connections. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 11AM in the Chapel of Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center, 5600 Gen. DeGaulle Dr., in New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM.

Ruth Hunter McAnespy

Ruth Marie Denney Hunter McAnespy entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the age of 86. Ruth was the wife of the late Louis E. Hunter for 19 years and the late Wilfred J. McAnespy for 39 years. She is the Daughter of the late Everett Manning Denny and the late Gladys Reidy Hagler Denney Strunk. Loving and devoted Mother of Keith (Patricia) Hunter, Kasey Hunter and the late Kerry Hunter Callahan and the late Baby Boy Hunter. Loving Grandmother of Sol (Ellie) Salgado, Megan Hunter, Cody (Emily) Hunter, Adelai Evans, William Hunter, Emile Evans, Kaitlyn Hunter, Sophia Evans, Savannah (Caleb) Berry and Willie Maus. Beloved Great Grandmother of Lilah-lynn Jackson, Abigail Hunter and the late Laila May Berry. Ruth is the sister of Frank Denney, Richard Denney, Julie Denney Rhodes and the late Evetta June Phelps, the late Charles Phelps, the late Roy Denney and the late Howard (Marie) Denney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended McAnespy Family.

Ruth Marie Denney was born in Northport Alabama on the 8th of December, 1938. She was one of 8 children. She grew up running the hills of Alabama until she moved to Palatka, Florida. As a young girl she was very active in 4-H and won many awards for sewing, cooking, photography and art. She married and moved to Louisiana and started a family. Widowed at 36 and having 3 young children she started making ends meet by teaching art and selling her paintings in the French Quarter. She was a very accomplished artist and won many awards for her paintings. She was also the Westbank art guild president for several years. She remarried at 39 to a widower with children and the family expanded to 7 kids. During that time she was always actively doing something whether volunteering at her church, gardening, painting pictures, woodworking and repairing old furniture. She loved to collect plates, old books and certain figurines. But, most of all she enjoyed entertaining. One of the biggest events we had growing up was the annual Thanksgiving breakfast. She would invite literally hundreds of families and people from church and would have them come to our house in shifts to be able to feed them all. She would enlist us kids and some of our neighbors to dress us up as Indians and pilgrims and serve the many that would come to eat. She also served as librarian at her church for many years and decorated the church auditorium for many events that they had. There really wasn’t much that she didn’t do or volunteer for. Her life was full and quite eventful. She loved going to church and loved singing hymns. She loved it so much she taught herself piano so that she could play the old hymns and sing at home. For a while she even took violin lessons with some of her grandchildren. One thing that everyone knew about her was that she loved the Lord. She and a neighbor would have morning coffee and hold a prayer meeting in her home for several years. I’m sure anyone in the family who got to spend any time with her would know that her greatest wish is that all of her children and grandchildren would come to know Christ. Like any family there were ups and downs, good times and bad times but through it all she always found a way to inject God into the situation. She passed away peacefully as a resident at the Azalea apartments in Waldenburg Village. Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Vallette Street, Algiers, Louisiana on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 10:30AM until 11AM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11AM. A private interment for family will be held at a later date. The family invited you to share fond memories, thoughts and condolences online at mothefunerals.com.

Jemi Lynne Carlone

Jemi Lynne Carlone of Belle Chasse, Louisiana passed peacefully on the morning of Friday, May 16th, 2025 at 55 years of age, surrounded by her family.

Jemi is survived by her devoted husband of 25 years, Walt Carlone. She has two daughters, Kaylee & Kendall Carlone. She is survived by her mother, Nancy LaHaye, and preceded in death by her father, James LaHaye. She was very close to her cousins and her sister-in-law.

From her earliest days, Jemi has touched countless lives — shaping minds, lifting spirits, and nurturing hearts. Her legacy remains within the sport of softball and within the education system, two things she loved dearly. She attended Belle Chasse High School, where she began her career as a renowned fast-pitcher and was honored to have her number retired. Ultimately, she earned a full scholarship to play at Northwestern State University, where she still holds a record for most innings pitched in a single game. Jemi's heart eventually led her back to her alma mater, Belle Chasse High School, where her light continued to shine as an educator and as a coach. She served over 30 years as an educator, with her crowning achievement becoming principal of BCHS. She led her school with wisdom, compassion, and strength, and was proud to be a pioneer in education statewide as President of the Louisiana Association of Principals. Her favorite passion by far was to travel and see the world. Above all, she loved her family, and was proud to be a wife, mother, and daughter.

Memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 8968 LA-23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037, on Saturday, May 24th, 2025. Visitation will be held from 9:00am - 11:45am. Funeral mass will follow at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Jemi requested donations of mesh school bags, filled with an approved list of school supplies, to be dropped off at the Plaquemines Parish School Board office, 1484 Woodland Hwy, Belle Chasse, LA 70037. Donations will be accepted between 9:00 am-4:00 pm on the following dates: May 23rd, May 27th, May 30th. More details on donations can be found at www.ppsb.org.

Beloved son of Ann “Lucy” Baker and the late William R. Baker Sr. Brother of the late John A. Baker (the late Gail). Uncle of Brit Baker. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.

Will was born in Panama and came to the U.S. with his parents and brother at 3 years of age. He grew up in Algiers with a large group of friends with whom he remained close to his entire life. A car accident left him paralyzed from the neck down at age 19. Will went on to earn a BA and MBA from UNO. Will was an avid sports fan. He had season tickets for years to the Saints games and to UNO baseball and basketball. He also followed the Pelicans, Zephyrs, and Tulane teams.
