The Bayou Lafourche Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recognizes Sickle Cell Awareness Month in honor of our Soror Simone Martin and in loving memory of Ashantian Lacey Smith, the late daughter of Soror Sharone Smith-McPherson.

Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic blood disorder that affects the shape of red blood cells, causing them to become hard and crescent-shaped instead of round and flexible. These cells can block blood flow, leading to severe pain, anemia, infections, and other serious health complications. The disease disproportionately impacts people of African descent.

Let us continue to spread awareness, support families, and advocate for better treatments and a cure. ❤️🩸
