🥂Are you a psychotherapist in the New Orleans area? Do you need to build your referral network? Do you want more opportunities to connect with like-minded therapists?

We are excited to announce our third Psychotherapist Social Hour on Thursday, Jan. 15th, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Bayou Beer Garden.

The Social Hour is a casual event for psychotherapists to relax, network, and enjoy a drink together every three months. Our hope is to build community, create high-quality referral networks, and reduce the stress and isolation that we can experience as mental health professionals.

All counselors, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists are welcome. Clinicians who are curious about psychoanalysis and our center will have the opportunity to learn more from our members, but an interest in psychoanalysis is not required to attend.

Please join us and help us build community together!

We look forward to seeing you there!

We think about ourselves—but how often do we think about how we think about ourselves?
And when we do, what exactly is the “Self” we’re considering?
If I am thinking about myself, who is the “I,” and who is the “Self”?

In this program, we will trace the history of narcissism and the Self in Western culture—from biblical origins to contemporary views. We’ll explore the pervasive narcissism embedded in modern society and work toward redefining the concepts of Self, narcissism, and well-being. By reframing these ideas, we can deepen our understanding of how they shape the dynamics of transference and countertransference.

How much of transference and countertransference can be understood as rooted in the narcissistic processes of both analyst and patient?

If so, consider the question:
Is the psychoanalytic relationship a therapeutically necessary narcissistic fever dream—interrupted by fleeting moments of awakening in both patient and analyst—whose success depends on a sustained awakening shared by both?

Join us on January 17, 2026 for “The I in You” presented by Dr. Jeffrey Luria.

As the year comes to a close and we look ahead to 2026, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the vital role the New Orleans–Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center continues to play in our community.

At a time when access to mental health care is increasingly strained, NOBPC remains committed to offering a thoughtful, steady psychoanalytic presence. We train clinicians with rigor, depth, and compassion—fostering a professional community dedicated to meaningful, long-term mental health care for individuals and families in New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Your year-end contribution helps sustain the programs, mentorship, and educational opportunities that make this work possible. It directly supports the clinicians we train and, in turn, the clients and communities they serve.

Every gift—no matter the size—strengthens our ability to provide high-quality psychoanalytic treatment and education well into the coming year.

There is still time to make a tax-deductible gift before the end of the year (feel free to scan the QR code). Your generosity today helps ensure that this essential work continues into 2026 and beyond.

Thank you for supporting the work that supports our community. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and belief in the importance of sustained, thoughtful mental health care.

With gratitude,
NOBPC❤️
