The world is changing so quickly. So much about simply living in today’s world has become more stressful, increasingly hectic, and less lastingly satisfying. More and more, this “ramping up” of life’s stressors seems to be affecting my sense of wellbeing. I crave grounding and more integration throughout my whole self. The Feldenkrais Method® will do this, of course. But over the past several years I have found it even more effective to engage in a regular practice of mindfulness meditation—together with an ongoing Feldenkrais practice—than just doing Feldenkrais by itself. Perhaps you will too.

Two Saturdays each month, I teach a 90-minute class that focuses on illuminating the synergy between Feldenkrais and mindfulness meditation. Class includes a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, a guided 20-minute meditation and a little time for questions, answers and discussion. You’ll do the class at home via Zoom.

This week’s class is FREE. If you’d like to attend class this Saturday, 1/20/24 at 10:00am (EST), just click the link in my bio that says, “email and request…” I’ll send you a link to enter this Saturday’s class about an hour before class begins. I hope to see you!

If you think your physical comfort and ability is not related to your stress level, give me a chance to show you otherwise. Ever tried a Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement Class®? Feldenkrais classes are a way to lower your stress level and improve your mood while you train yourself, by doing gentle movements, to become a more efficient, more capable, more comfortable human being. Yes, all that and more.

The Feldenkrais Method puts discoveries made in neurology, biology, kinesiology, even philosophy into easy-to-do, hour-long experiential classes that will change your life. You’ll get specific instructions that require no previous experience and will have you feeling better after the very first class. I’ve got twenty years’ experience and will leave time to answer any and all of your questions at the end of class. If you’re familiar with the Feldenkrais Method, you might find even familiar classes interesting as I put additional focus on making it clear why we’re doing what we’re doing in a lesson.

I teach a free introductory class live on Zoom on the last Saturday of each month (it’s coming right up). If you can’t make the free class this month, why wait another month? I teach Tuesday and Friday morning classes every week.

Get all the information and register through the link in my bio.

Hope to see you soon!

Curious about Feldenkrais®? Or, maybe you know and like the work but are looking for a new teacher? Once each month, (generally on the last Saturday) at 10:00 am (EDT), I offer a 60-minute free, virtual group Feldenkrais® class that’s geared toward beginners. If you’ve been confused or uncertain in previous classes, when you come to any of my classes there is always a question and answer period at the end. No previous experience with the Feldenkrais Method® is necessary.

I’ve been teaching Feldenkrais for twenty years. I believe our work can help everyone and I’m trying to do what I can to remove as many barriers of entry for as many people as possible, whether the barrier be financial or functional, a lack of experience or understanding or anything else. Everyone is welcome.

Feldenkrais classes are a way to train yourself to become a more efficient, more capable, more comfortable human being. If you want to know more about the Feldenkrais Method, I encourage you to explore my website. You don’t need to know anything to join and derive benefit from the classes but if you’re curious, you’ll find a lot of information throughout the site. Check the links in my bio to sign-up for the free class or to jump on over to my website. I hope to see you soon!

The world is changing so quickly. So much about simply living in today's world has become more stressful, faster-paced, and less lastingly satisfying. This "ramping up" of life's stressors seems to be affecting my mind as much or even more than my body and I feel the need to augment my Feldenkrais® practice with anything that will bring more awareness of what's really going on with my thoughts and emotions. I crave a greater sense of grounding and integration in my mind in ways that Feldenkrais work has grounded and integrated my body. The Feldenkrais Method® will do this, of course. But I have found it even more effective to engage in a regular practice of mindfulness meditation--together with an ongoing Feldenkrais practice--than just doing Feldenkrais by itself. There's plenty of time to register and attend this weekend's class. Options for registering for a single class or for subscribing (then you can take any class anytime you like) will be found in the links in my bio.

Do you have difficulty paying attention to what you decide you’d like to engage with? Has it become more difficult over the past fifteen or twenty years to sit down and read for a couple of hours at a stretch? Does it seem more difficult to complete a project than it used to be? I hear things like this regularly. I find it true for myself.

You can do something about it. Learn to improve your ability to pay attention. It’s an intrinsic aspect of what comprises the Feldenkrais Method. To improve through our methodology, the better your facility to direct and sustain attention on yourself in movement, the more effective your engagement with Feldenkrais work becomes. Changes accrue much more quickly when you know how to sense yourself and attend to those sensations. Changes become more lasting when the improvement is integrated into your subconscious actions but is also identifiable in detail by your conscious awareness any time you decide to pay attention.

Even if you have a good facility for directing your awareness, how often do you remember to use this facility? Your ability to remember your own power of attending more often can also be improved with practice.

The “attention muscle” is so important to so many aspects of our life and function that if you use more than just one method to work it out, improvements happen faster; your sense of wellbeing will ramp up more quickly and you’ll feel better and the feelings will sustain longer.

Feldenkrais sessions or classes alone will help you learn to pay attention with more facility. And that might be enough for you. But mindfulness meditation helps with this same thing even more directly than Feldenkrais work does. Practicing both modalities adds up to something much greater than the simple sum of the two parts.

Freedom.

That’s what we’re all after to one degree or another, isn’t it? You may be in a place where you really need freedom from something outside yourself. If that’s true for you, you have my sympathy and hope that your situation will improve and resolve with as little stress and strife as possible.

Nearly all of us feel we can also benefit from finding freedom from something that we know comes from within. Some way we typically behave that seems impossible to change; feelings of inadequacy that we feel strongly and yet, also feel on some level, are not coming from the person we are striving to be. Maybe you’re a habitual procrastinator or you are chronically late or you get angry without realizing it until something unpleasant happens to “wake you up” enough to get a handle on your own behavior. Whatever it might be for you, learning to pay attention to what goes on in your body and in your mind with greater and greater specificity will help in every aspect of your life.

I teach a class twice a month (usually the first and third Saturdays) that combines elements from the Feldenkrais Method and mindfulness meditation to give you a double-dose of improvement. If any of this interests you, check the link in my bio and find out more. I hope to meet you soon!

When you pay attention, your brain changes the way it functions. You become more present and better able to handle change. When you direct your attention toward your own movement, your neuromuscular organization can change more positively and more lastingly. You feel better. Happier. More confident. More capable. This happens even when the improvement is relatively small. And that can happen during every Feldenkrais Method® Awareness Through Movement® class you take.

What does it feel like to become a better, more confident mover? Come find out at my free Feldenkrais® fundamentals class. You’ll get specific instructions for how to pay attention to pleasant, easy-to-do movement explorations that will put your brain in learning mode and improve the way you move and how you feel. Classes are an hour long with a question and answer period at the end. No previous experience with the Feldenkrais Method is necessary.

If you’re seeing this, you probably see posts from other Feldenkrais teachers as well. There are lots of us. Many of us teach on line. You have choices. If you’re looking for classes that you can take at home via Zoom, you have more choices than ever before. And we’re all a little different. The Feldenkrais Method is vast. Many of us teach lessons with a different emphasis on where we ask you to focus attention. Some of us use language differently. Some use a lot more metaphor; others are more matter-of-fact. Some teachers use a lot more humor than others; some tell more personal stories (relating to the lesson, hopefully); some teachers bring in aspects of other complimentary modalities in which they are also proficient. Several of my regular students also take classes from other Feldenkrais teachers. They report that they enjoy our lessons for somewhat different reasons. The question I have for you is, have you explored the wide range of possible teachers that are out there? If not, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find. If you’ve not done Feldenkrais before, how can you make an intelligent decision about with whom you’ll study? Why not try a bunch of us out? See what you like; who resonates with you; who seems to be speaking in a way that makes sense to you. Sometimes it can just be a feeling, an intuition, a sense. If you’d like to give my class a try, I offer a Free Feldenkrais Fundamentals class on the last Saturday of each month (this coming weekend). I’ve been teaching for twenty years. Come give my class a try. Did I mention that it’s free? Did I say it’s this Saturday? There’s a link to register in my bio. Hope to see you there!
