While we often overlook our gums, they have a vital role to play when it comes to a healthy mouth. Your gums act as an anchor to keep your teeth in line, and they absorb shock when you bite and chew to protect your jawbone. Gums also serve as a protective barrier to prevent harmful bacteria from entering our bloodstreams and making us sick.
