This is a free access article from the Guardian. The ONLY thing I have ever appreciated about Ronald Reagan is that he signed EMTALA into law. While emergency transfers in planned home birth are quite rare, when they occur and the client or a baby needs to be stabilized and moved to a hospital for further care and observation, because of EMTALA, midwives can go to the closest hospital and will not be turned away. Now imagine if that were not the case, and we had to pass a hospital to get to another one, further away. How pro-life are you, SCOTUS?
