Last night, we were honored to celebrate the endowment of the Evelyn Asplundh Fellowship in Clinical Psychology! Through an extraordinary gift from many, many members of the Asplundh family, the will have the opportunity to train generations of exceptional psychology postdoctoral fellows in evidence-based care for su***de prevention. Our goal, as always, is to provide the best care possible for all we serve, and this gift enables us to do so in the most meaningful way and impactful way.

Congratulations to Daria Williams, PsyD, as our inaugural fellow!

Thank you to all who have contributed to this growing endowment for your continued support and generosity. We will always strive to honor Evelyn’s name in all we do.

It’s Su***de Prevention Month and our experts are out and about providing training throughout the area and sharing the important resources available through the David Farber ASPIRE Center.

Supportive relationships. Feeling connected at school. Access to mental health care. Identify affirming spaces. These aren’t just concepts- they’re lifelines for youth who may be struggling.

Listening without judgement, creating safe spaces, and checking in regularly can make a big difference in the lives of young people as they transition back to school.

The School District of Philadelphia's Office of Prevention and Intervention has created a Wellness Coloring Book to help kids and their caretakers explore emotions and strengthen mental wellbeing together. This is a great tool to start a conversation with your child about their mental health during the transition back to school.

It’s never too early to start talking with your child about their mental health. Access this free resource here: www.philasd.org/prevention/wp-content/uploads/sites/153/2025/06/Mental-Health-Coloring-Book.pdf

Did you know? Every Philadelphia public school includes the Student Assistance Program (SAP)- a free, early-intervention support service available to all K-12 students. Even if you’re not in Philadelphia, most districts in the Commonwealth have a Student Assistance Program- visit pnsas.org to learn about resources in your area.

SAP teams are staffed by trained school & agency professionals and help identify concerns like substance use or mental health struggles and connect students and families with appropriate supports. This guide, created by the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services , outlines how to access SAP services in Philadelphia.

When young people feel seen, valued, and connected, they’re more likely to reach out for help, and less likely to experience suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Research shows that strong social connections can be powerful protective factors against su***de. Here’s how we can foster community with young people:

-Check in on your friends, children, and students, even when they seem “fine”
-Create space for honest conversations
-Celebrate identity and authenticity
-Remind people in your life that they matter.

Social media is often a big part of teens’ lives, but when they’re on it too frequently, studies show a link to increased rates of bullying, sadness or hopelessness, and even suicidal thoughts or planning.

We encourage you to support healthy social media habits in teens. Here’s some tips;

✅Talk early and often about social media usage, and ask open questions
✅Stay involved by scrolling together and sharing reactions with one another
✅Model healthy social media habits by showing your own balanced tech usage
✅Set consistent boundaries like screen-free times or using parental controls
