Such a great story to remind us why we do what we do!

53 years ago I had just graduated High School and was working at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home. It was 1970 when funeral homes provided ambulance service to the community. I clearly remember one of the first bad calls I was ever on. A 2 year old baby fell from a 2 story window on to concrete in Dover her name was Julie Zorzi. She was critically injured. Jim Fox and I were called to the horrific scene and did what we could do and transported her to Union Hospital. A brain surgeon was called and was waiting in an operating room at Timken Mercy I recall. The police cleared I 77 and with Jim and a nurse in the back we rushed her to Canton in under 15 minutes. I was driving them in a 1968 Oldsmobile High Top ambulance. The beautiful young lady in this photo is that 2 year old girl from 53 years ago. I was 18 and starting a very rewarding career. I was fortunate to meet her at a recent event. To all of my friends in EMS, never underestimate the lives you have touched during your career. Please keep making a difference.

This past weekend, our Live Fire Instructors completed in-service training with our brand new burn building—an exciting step forward in enhancing fire education at Buckeye Career Center. The structure provides realistic, hands-on training opportunities that help better prepare our students and instructors for real-world emergencies.

Exciting days at Buckeye Career Center!

Today and tomorrow, our fire instructors are receiving orientation and training on our new burn building from FTS, the manufacturer of the building.

This is a big step forward in enhancing hands-on fire training for our students. We’re proud to keep advancing our program and preparing the next generation of firefighters.

Stay tuned for more updates as we put this new training tool to use.

Students from our recent Newcomerstown Firefighter Level 1 course had their burn day at the Wayne County Regional Fire School. Thermal imagers were used by instructors to help keep track of students and teach them further about fire behavior and search operations. Here are some of those thermal images taken from a Seek Fire Pro 300.

Congratulations to our recent Boweston Fire Level 2 Transition class for all passing their state exam. From Bowerston Fire are Emily Warner, Marina Sanders, Andrew Slentz, Corben Fogle, Cutter Crall (also of Tappan Lake Fire), and from Cadiz Fire Greg Erwin. These dedicated young Firefighters will certainly go on to great things for their agencies.

Exciting news! All 12 students in the Volunteer Firefighter 36 class, hosted at Erie Valley Fire, have successfully passed their state fire test! Congratulations to each of you on this incredible achievement.

This class was made up of dedicated volunteers from Erie Valley Fire, Brewster Fire, Wilmot Fire, Beach City Fire, and Magnolia Fire. Your hard work and commitment to serving your communities do not go unnoticed.
