Linda J. Mundy, 78, of Coaldale, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 27, 2026, at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial—the same hospital where she dedicated years of service before her retirement.
Born in Coaldale on April 9, 1947, Linda was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth “Betty” Neifert. A 1965 Panther Valley graduate, she was known for her tireless work ethic and her hands that were rarely still; she was a talented seamstress and an avid reader who spent over a decade organizing weekly bingos for the Coaldale Ambulance Association. Before retiring from St. Luke's Miners, Linda worked as a bookkeeper for the former Panther Valley Carriers for many years.
Linda was also predeceased by; James Fedorick who resided with she and Michael for over 50 years; best friend, Linda (Richards) Huynh.

Linda’s heart was always at home. She shared 61 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Michael J. Mundy Sr. Together, they built a life centered on family, Linda is also survived by; son, Michael J. Mundy, Jr. and his wife Christie; daughters, Bobbi J. Kulaga, Tina M. VanBuren wife of Frank; brothers, William Weaver, Sr. and his wife Roseann, Robert Neifert, Jr.; sister, Kim Usalis; grandchildren, Aleida and her fiancé Connor, Ashley and her husband Nate, Haley and her partner Jalen, Hunter and his partner Dakota, Alyssa and her husband Tyler; great grandchildren, Ryan, Cole, and much anticipation awaits the arrival of Baby McHugh in May.

ASK ABOUT MEDICAL HISTORY. Compile a list of medications your parents are taking, along with their allergies, prior surgeries and the names of their physicians and pharmacy, said Dr. Namita Seth Mohta, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. This list is particularly helpful in an emergency because it tells doctors what underlying conditions the patient has and which medications should be continued or avoided in the hospital.

CLARIFY WHAT MATTERS MOST. During a health crisis, there are countless choices that parents or adult children might need to make. While you can't anticipate every single one, discussing goals and values in advance helps parents feel more prepared for an emergency and keep adult children on the same page.

DISCUSS THEIR LIVING ENVIRONMENT. Many people end up in hospitals or care facilities because of a mismatch between their abilities and home environment, said Dr. Louise Aronson, a geriatrician at the University of California San Francisco. So talk to your parents about making changes around the house to extend their independence. It's also worth discussing where your parents will live long-term, Dr. Aronson said.

NAME A POINT PERSON. Adult children should ask their parents who will be responsible for medical decision-making-and make sure it's clear to everyone. That way, you avoid fights and confusion in an emergency.

Phyllis Ann Pruett, a lifelong resident of Tamaqua and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, at the age of 90.

Born on August 31, 1935, Phyllis was a woman of simple joys and immense devotion. After graduating from Tamaqua High School, she spent many years as a seamstress at J.E. Morgan Knitting, but her true "work" was found in the warmth of her kitchen. Known for her baking and cooking, Phyllis’s greatest delight was gathering her family around a table. Whether she was playing a competitive game of cards or volunteering with the Middle Ward Playground Association, she moved through life with a steady kindness and a deep love for her hometown. Phyllis and Frank experienced a beautiful life living on Washington Street in Tamaqua, from the bygone days of summers spent on their front porch or that of a neighbor enjoying friendly banter and a cold beer which she even asked for lately.

A faithful member of Trinity U.C.C., Phyllis has now been reunited with her beloved husband, Franklin J. Pruett, her parents, William and Catherine (Zierd) Bower; brothers, William and Kenneth Bower; sisters, Betty Murphy, Louise Leiby, Ruth Sheers
