Happy Presidents’ Day!

Today, we honor the leaders who have helped shape our nation’s history and the principles that continue to guide us—service, integrity, and community.

At your local electric cooperative, we’re proud to power more than homes and businesses—we power the communities we serve. Just like our nation’s founders believed in building a strong future together, electric cooperatives are built on the power of people coming together to serve a common good.

As a member-owned cooperative, you’re at the heart of everything we do. Thank you for being part of a tradition rooted in service and dedicated to keeping the lights on for generations to come.

Not just for our linemen, for all of the linemen that are working in these current weather conditions. We appreciate you.

As winter weather moves in, this is a moment to think about the linemen who head out when conditions are at their worst. While most people stay indoors, they work in freezing temperatures, high winds, and dangerous conditions to keep the lights on and communities connected. Their job rarely gets attention unless something goes wrong.

These crews put themselves at risk so families can stay warm, hospitals can keep running, and towns can function through storms. Long hours, exhaustion, and exposure to the elements are part of the job, especially during severe weather. It’s work that demands skill, courage, and resilience.

So tonight and over the next few days, many are keeping them in their thoughts and prayers. Gratitude doesn’t always make the forecast better, but it does matter. Their dedication keeps life moving when winter tries to shut everything down.

We are looking ahead to the weekend and the possibility of ice across our service territory. PC Electric wants our members to know that we are monitoring this very closely and we have crews on standby ready to respond to power outages as quickly and as safely as possible. Now, here is how you can prepare. Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, food and water, cash, and medication available. If you should lose power, have a way to keep warm. Charge your phones and any medical devices. And if you rely on these medical devices, have a plan in place for possible extended outages. Please monitor this page for updates and reports. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding and thank you for being a valued member of PC Electric. Stay safe.

Safety Tips For Using a Space Heater in Your Home.

Maintain at least 3 feet (1 meter) of clearance from furniture, curtains, bedding, and anything flammable.

Turn the heater off when leaving the room or going to sleep (unless it’s specifically rated for overnight use).

Plug directly into a wall outlet and NEVER use extension cords or power strips—they can overheat and cause fires.

Choose heaters with safety features such as Tip-over shutoff, Overheat protection, Cool-touch exterior, and Automatic shutoff

Never use near sinks, bathtubs, or in damp areas unless the heater is rated for bathroom use.

If the cord is frayed, cracked, or hot to the touch, stop using the heater.

Never put a space heater on a bed, couch, or carpet unless the manufacturer allows it.

Avoid using space heaters in homes with oxygen tanks or flammable vapors.

Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors (especially if using fuel-burning heaters).

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully—every model is different.

These simple tips will help you stay safe while staying warm.

Cold temperatures remain in our service area this weekend. If you use a space heater to help warm up, please follow these energy efficiency tips to help you save money while you stay warm.

Heat only the space you use. Space heaters are best for single rooms. Close doors and curtains to keep heat from escaping.

Choose the right size heater. A heater that’s too small will run constantly; too large wastes energy. Roughly, you need ~10 watts per square foot.

Use a thermostat or timer. Heaters with built-in thermostats or timers prevent overheating and unnecessary energy use.

Supplement, don’t replace, central heating. Lower your main thermostat a few degrees and use a space heater where you spend the most time.

Improve insulation first. Seal drafts, use weather stripping, and add thick curtains—this reduces how hard the heater needs to work.

Turn it off when not needed.
