Fun post 🤠

This ROM (Range of Motion) example is doing what? Multiple answer question.

A. Testing Hocks
B. Testing Stifles
C. Stretching the Quadriceps muscles
D. Stretching the Hamstring muscles
F. I didn’t even know you could stretch a horse
G. More of these posts 🙃

Stretching a Horse is a wonderful tool I use to assess the horse’s joint and muscle comfort.

Who’s interested in learning how to properly stretch and evaluate their horse on a regular basis?

👀🐴Did you know we offer equine dentistry at Back in Motion? Why you ask? Great question!

Your horse’s teeth don’t stop growing—and if they’re not checked regularly, sharp points, hooks, or imbalances can cause pain, weight loss, poor performance, and behavior issues that are easy to miss. Imbalanced mouths can also lead to musculoskeletal imbalances due to compensation patterns that start in the jaw!

So their adjustment won’t hold if their teeth aren’t balanced! Which is our primary WHY.

Signs your horse might be overdue for a dental?
• Dropping feed
• Head tossing or resisting the bit
• Unexplained weight loss
• Quidding (spitting out hay)

Keep in mind we want to do dentals before there are any clinic signs! So every 6-12 months is ideal depending on your horses job/lifestyle.

📣Other soapbox moment: it is impossible to evaluate the mouth without sedation. Rear hooks are frequently missed and cause significant issues. So if you are calling us to check to see if they need a float, they will be sedated 💉

Does your horse show signs of mid back pain?

Signs can be extreme or subtle.
Some signs include :

Shying away or pinning ears during grooming / being saddled/cinched, bucking in transitions or forward motion, tail swishing during collection / engagement, hollowing out in transitions, referred symptoms/issues to forehand or hindquarters, discomfort when stretching, muscle sensitivity (spasm) around spine… AND more!

These signs are due to spinal impingements. It can be the cause, or the effect. Impingements are accompanied with muscle tension and ligament stress, which over time can lead to injuries, and reduced performance.

Contact us today if your horse is experiencing any of these.
