The Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica is known as a Blue Zone or region that has been shown to have highest longevity and lowest rates of chronic disease on the planet. Other Blue Zones include Okinawa, Japan, Sardinia, Italy, Ikaria, Greece and Loma Linda, California.
Researchers have identified several key lifestyle factors common in Blue Zones, including:
- A focus on whole, plant based foods, with minimal processed foods.
- Incorporating natural movement into daily life.
- Practicing techniques to reduce stress, such as mindfulness and meditation.
- Maintaining strong family ties and community involvement.
- Having a sense of purpose and meaning in life.
By incorporating these strategies into our daily lives we can achieve healthier lives both physically and mentally. These are key factors in being happy and healthy on our journey through life together.
