Always missing these sweet moments during the summer! This student transferred half way through the school year and was scared of Blaze, to the point where he wouldn’t even sit next to him if he’s was close by. This picture was taken the last week of therapy, after multiple sessions of curiosity on the floor with him. Once he realized Blaze was a safe space, he couldn’t keep his hands off of him and even snuggled up with him at one point! And the best part- the increase in spontaneous utterances talking about Blaze 💖✨

I was holding back tears listening to a sweet student read this book “To Dogs, With Love” to Blaze. One of our amazing teachers saw ‘s giveaway on Twitter and shared Blaze’s story, and ended up getting a signed copy of the book for Blaze and our school. What an amazing way to teach children about therapy dogs, and an amazing tribute to therapy dogs across all settings. Honored to have this book on our shelf and for our classes! Thank you Shirley and Maria! 💙

I can’t even begin to describe the abundance of love that was felt around school for “Blaze Day” 💓
(Special thanks to my AMAZING principal who dedicated this day to celebrate Blaze, and just because!)
Students and staff made cards, gave toys and treats, made signs and banners, wore doodle shirts, and shouted “Happy Blaze Day!” all day, all over campus. It means so much to know that he has such a huge impact on both tiny humans and adult ones, and even students that he doesn’t get to see on a regular basis for Speech.
I am loud about advocating for therapy dogs in schools and this is a pure example of why. Thank you to my Spruce Creek family who went above and beyond for Blaze and always make him feel like the luckiest dog. He (we) love you all!

The only pic we got- but we rocked our socks for Down syndrome awareness today at school! Our students couldn’t believe Blaze had his own socks, and that he was rocking them around campus 😜 I love how much inclusion it brought all around school to help raise awareness on others uniqueness ✨

SLPs- don’t sleep on these letter sound boxes! We sorted them by phoneme for easy, grab and go artic, but they can be used for both speech and language. My kids love mixing the pictures up, finding their sounds, sorting, describing etc. - Grab them on Amazon!

People ask me if I think Blaze knows his job, and I can confidently say that he does. He amazes me all the time, but especially when our kiddos are really emotionally charged or dysregulated. Blaze will go up to a screaming child and try to sniff their faces. He’ll go up to a student hitting and kicking a wall and lay next to them. He’s fearless and confident. Of course there are situations where I am not, and we will not subject him to unsafe environments if a student is too far in crisis, but the amount of moments we’ve witnessed the last 5 years are just proof that therapy animals can help, they make a huge difference, and they can heal, which is why I’ll never stop advocating for them in schools and for services ❤️

Someone is happy to be back at school after a few weeks off 🥰 This week we’re taking time to welcome kids back, build up the rapport, show support for those who may not have had as good of a break as others, and get kids back into their speech/language routines. You’d be surprised at how many “I forget”s I’ve heard when asking if students remembered what they were working on 🙃
