The New Smyrna Beach Police Department is pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Chris Kirk has been appointed as the Interim Chief of Police by City Manager Kevin Cowper in preparation for the departure of Chief Eric Feldman. As the department embarks on a nationwide search for a permanent replacement, Interim Chief Kirk will lead the department with a commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding the values of service, integrity, and community engagement.

Interim Chief Kirk has been with the department for over 21 years and has extensive experience in many aspects of law enforcement, having served in various leadership roles across multiple divisions of NSBPD. His dedication to the City of New Smyrna Beach and his deep understanding of the challenges faced by both officers and the community makes him uniquely qualified to step into this important role during this transitional period.

“I am honored to take on the role of Interim Chief of Police and to continue strengthening the bonds between our department and the community,” said Interim Chief Kirk. “I look forward to supporting our phenomenal officers and civilian staff as they serve the public, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to provide the highest level of service and maintain the trust of the people we serve.”

The search for a permanent Chief of Police will begin soon. In the meantime, Interim Chief Kirk will continue to work closely with community leaders, officers, and city officials to maintain the safety and security of our beloved city.
