Yesterday, the FDA sent out a press release on its long-awaited “Report on the Use of PFAS in Cosmetic Products and Associated Risks.” The Cliff Notes? A 228-page report with a lot of good facts… only to conclude that the agency was going to do absolutely nothing about it. The FDA’s press release claims “FDA Finds Insufficient Data to Determine Safety of PFAS in Cosmetic Products.” Of course, that’s a load of dog doodoo. The agency ended the press release by saying, “The FDA will continue to monitor emerging scientific data and devote additional resources to address data gaps, supporting the Department of Health and Human Services’ Make America Healthy Again efforts to reduce PFAS across the food and consumer product supply chain through expanded testing, monitoring, and surveillance.”
QUESTION: How in the WORLD does testing, monitoring, and surveillance “reduce PFAS across the food and consumer product supply chain”? IT DOESN’T. TO REDUCE WOULD MEAN REMOVAL. It would mean REGULATION.
TO THE FDA: Americans are now up to our ears in the pussyfooting and gaslighting. The agency has done absolutely ZILCH to get toxins out of our food and consumer products. It’s been all REPORTS and NO ACTION. We DON’T NEED more “testing, monitoring, and surveillance” for PFAS in cosmetics. It’s a WASTE of taxpayer dollars. BAN TOXIC PFAS CHEMICALS in cosmetics NOW. If 10 states have already done it, then the rest of America DESERVES THE SAME. And while we’re at it… PFAS shouldn’t just be banned in cosmetic and personal care products. The entire class of PFAS chemicals needs to be banned in ALL consumer products. Toxic PFAS Forever Chemicals do not belong in the products we use every day, in the food we eat and beverages we drink, and bioaccumulating in our bodies and bringing DISEASE and early DEATH. DO YOUR FREAKING JOB!
