🐾✨ Exciting News from The Wellspring at Port Orange Counseling! ✨🐾

Brody, a 2½-year-old golden retriever, and his handler, Brandy Thompson, have officially earned their certification through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs! 🎉

Brody’s journey began at just 8 months old when he and Brandy started training with Sarah Ross, owner of Star Quality Dog Training located in Ormond Beach. Over the past two years, Brody has worked diligently through multiple levels of training — earning his AKC Star Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, Basic Obedience, and Advanced Obedience certifications. His calm temperament, gentle nature, and eagerness to please have made him a natural for therapy work. 💛

After years of preparation, evaluations, and observation visits in nursing homes and public settings, Brody has proven he has what it takes to bring comfort, joy, and peace to those around him. 🐶💖

Brody will now be joining Brandy at The Wellspring at Port Orange Counseling as part of the practice’s Animal-Assisted Interventions program. Clients who wish to incorporate a therapy dog into their sessions will have the opportunity to work alongside Brody — experiencing firsthand the warmth, connection, and healing presence he brings.

The Wellspring team is thrilled to officially welcome Brody as a certified therapy dog and celebrate this milestone with Brandy!

Led by Wellspring at Port Orange Counseling’s clinicians, this gathering is all about making mental health more approachable. Whether you’re curious, seeking support, or just want to listen and learn — this space is for you.

Why are we doing this?
Because mental health impacts us all — in our homes, our workplaces, and our relationships. But too often, it’s a subject wrapped in stigma. We’re here to change that by creating safe spaces for open, honest dialogue.

🐾 Pet Wednesday: Community Partner Spotlight 🐾
Say hello to K9 Mila — a fierce, focused, and sweet-hearted member of the Port Orange Police Department team! 🇭🐕‍🦺💪

K9 Mila is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix from Hungary, and though she’s still early in her career, she’s already making a powerful impression. Mila began service in 2024 and is trained in:
🔍 Narcotic Detection
👣 Person Tracking
🧤 Evidence & Article Recovery
Mila’s name carries a legacy — she’s named after Lyudmila Pavlichenko, the famed Soviet sniper from WWII known as one of the deadliest in history. Like her namesake, Mila doesn’t back down from a challenge.

Affectionately called “Sweet Pea” by those who know her best, Mila’s gentle personality is a hit with everyone — but don’t let the nickname fool you. When it's time to work, Sweet Pea transforms into “Spicy Pea”, an unstoppable force with razor-sharp focus and determination. Nothing stands in her way when it’s time to get the job done! 🔥🐾

With her incredible temperament, drive, and heart, there’s no doubt that K9 Mila has an amazing career ahead of her. We’re honored to spotlight her as one of our community's finest four-legged heroes.

On National Law Enforcement Su***de Awareness Day, we remember the fallen and remind every officer: reaching out is an act of strength, not weakness.

The National Day of Remembrance is observed each year on September 25th. Established by Congress, this day honors the lives lost to homicide and acknowledges the profound impact of murder on families and communities.

Here in our community, Halifax Health—through its Traumatic Loss Program—extends this remembrance to include all lives lost to unnatural causes of death.

The Wellspring Mental Health Group stands in solidarity with Halifax Health and with every community member carrying the weight of these types of losses. Together, we honor, remember, and hold space for healing.

🐾 Pets of The Wellspring 🐾
This week, we're celebrating the newest member of our Port Orange team, Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern Taylor Shenk, M.S., by introducing her adorable pets — the four-legged friends who bring love, laughs, and a little chaos to her life!

🐱 Meet Minx
Minx is Taylor’s 11-year-old orange tabby and the sweetest old man you’ll ever meet. 🧡 Adopted from the Jacksonville Humane Society at age 8, Minx spent most of his life as a stray before finding his forever home.
Now? He’s all about cuddles, head naps, and drinking water exclusively from the sink faucet (because, of course he is). 😽 He’s the purrfect reminder that rescue pets can fill your life with endless comfort and love.

🐶 Say hello to Coco (short for Coconut!)
Coco is a 3-year-old mini Australian Shepherd with boundless energy and a heart just as big. 🤍🤎 Her name fits perfectly — not only do her colors resemble a coconut, but she’s also a little nutty in the best, most lovable way.
Her favorite activities? Chasing frisbees, turning socks into toys, and being the life of the party one zoomie at a time. And when it’s cuddle time, she’s just as all-in. 🐾
