It starts with us…🩵🩷💜
I was at the grocery store this morning and as I turned down an aisle, I noticed a woman standing there looking a little confused, I also noticed that her skin color didn’t seem right, it was almost grey. I asked her if she was okay, she responded, “yes.” So, I continued with my shopping. A few minutes later I went down another aisle and from twenty feet a way I saw her, and I could tell she was not okay. Between her and I there were about ten other people, all of which walked past her. When I got to her, she literally fainted in my arms. I gently brought her to the floor and called for help. Not one person who walked by went for help. I screamed louder and finally someone came, the paramedics arrived, and she was taken in the ambulance. She woke up as she was being wheeled to the ambulance and I was right there. She said, “I guess I wasn’t okay. Thank you for seeing me.”
I watched as the ambulance drove away.
“THANK YOU FOR SEEING ME.”
Hear these words loud and clear. We all wish to be seen in a way that brings comfort… at least I certainly do.
When did we become the kind of people that stop seeing others, especially at a time of fear or uncertainty?
Why is hate continuing to be elevated? Why are we allowing this?
In these current times we have differences of opinion, BIG differences, but that is not an invitation for hate, and it does not give us permission to be hateful, unkind, or dismissive.
Ghandi says, “be the change we want to see in the world.” It starts with us… if we want to see kindness, we must be kind. If we want to witness tolerance and acceptance, we must show tolerance and not be judgmental. And when someone is in crisis, or afraid... we show up for them and we do not walk away.
Find a way to exist knowing that while we may have differences of opinions we won’t allow ourselves to lose sight of kindness.
