A Life Saved in Minutes New Windsor, NY - July 3, 2025
When a local resident (pictured) experienced sudden chest pain after working outside, he did the right thing—he called 911. Within minutes, New Windsor EMS Paramedic Nick Seymour, EMT Kari Lahey, and EMT Jacob Colon were on the scene.
After detecting a massive heart attack on a 12-lead EKG, the team began life-saving interventions. But just two minutes into transport, the patient lost consciousness, stopped breathing, and had no pulse.
Thanks to quick CPR, defibrillation, and advanced care using our state-of-the-art cardiac monitor, the patient was revived within 3 minutes-and speaking by the time they arrived at St. Luke's. Emergency surgery followed, and just one week later, he walked out of the hospital with no neurological damage.
This is the 8-9% survival rate the American Heart Association talks about-and it happened right here in our community.
Thanks to nearly $2 million in equipment upgrades, including $65,000 cardiac monitors funded by grants, town support, and generous community donations, New Windsor EMS is ready when it matters most.
Thank you to our EMTs, paramedics, and first responders.
Heroes. Every day.
