Brooklyn’s highest staff:patient ratio, on-site K-12 education, PT, OT, ST and socialization programs. This unique care facility wasn’t based on the traditional post-acute care business model. Instead, it was conceived around the needs of children, specifically what they need in order to grow and flourish and develop and be happy. Because at Ditmas Children’s, we’re helping to raise a group of chi
ldren, and that came first. Only then did we Then we deal with what additions would be needed if all of those children were dealing with very complex medical and pulmonary conditions. So, we aren’t simply a children’s nursing facility, or a certified ventilator unit with some special features added, or a cerebral care unit. We’re a home, with some very special adaptations for our very special family. Ditmas Children’s provides complete medical and social care, unique to each child. A toddler has very different needs from a pre-teen, so “standard procedure” here means every child is treated as the
unique individual that they are. Many of our residents have multiple medical issues requiring the care of pediatric specialists in pulmonology, internal medicine, behavioral medicine, orthopedics and oher disciplines. Our children all receive the same hospital-level care that they would receive from a major medical center, right in the comfort and safety of their own rooms. Ditmas Children’s has only 20 beds, enabling us to deliver a more home-like experience. We have warm, comfortable bedrooms with room for toys, hobbies and sleepovers, backyard play space, and even our own dedicated classrooms providing K-12 instruction. And care here is provided by a team that was from hospitals and specialty care units all across the city, with the goal of building the finest team you’ll find anywhere. Our doctors, nurses and other care specialists are chosen for their expertise of course, but it’s their compassion and commitment to child care that makes each of them stand out. It’s that team that continually sets the bar for excellence in caring for chronically ill children.
