Before I go into the details of this post, I will say that there are several styles of exercise programs we can use as therapists (in terms of weight and volume), each having their own advantages. Often we hear the usual “3 sets of 10”. Something I find the industry of physical therapy underutilizes is the concept of low volume with higher loads. If we think about the mechanisms of injury that come through the door with regard to low back pain, many are performing a single lifting act. For example, perhaps a nurse that was transferring a patient. Now why would we rehab this person by exclusively performing exercises that have them do sets of 10, when what they need functionally is the ability to perform a lift with high resistance? If you are a consumer of physical therapy, make sure that your therapist is aware of your functional needs, and is pushing you to be able to achieve them!#PhysicalTherapy #PT #Hazlet #Keyport #Holmdel #Aberdeen #Matawan #Deadlift #Lifting #Powerlift
A lot of outpatient therapists may think working with neurological patients can be boring. I say they just aren’t getting creative enough 😁 no one likes basic cookie cutter exercisesHere I am working with a patient presenting with Parkinson’s Disease. Getting in some dynamic balance/stepping strategies and coordination. Keeping PT fun can not only make your job more exciting to go to each day, but it helps keep patients coming in to get better when they can actually enjoy their rehab!#PhysicalTherapy #PT #Hazlet #Rocky #Matawan #Aberdeen #Holmdel #Keyport #Orthopedics #Sportsrehab #neuro
