TGIF! Here is our last Staff Spotlight of the semester! 💜
Hi everyone! My name is Eliza Gloragille. I started my journey with Alliance University in 2020. I wanted to be a Pediatrician from the young age of 8. However, half way through my Pre-Med track in undergrad, God changed my plans and moved me to counseling. As humans tend to be, I was very stubborn and didn’t want to move over to the plans God had in store for me. Eventually I got inline with His plans and my love for counseling was birthed! Over the years, my love of speaking and helping individuals as much as I can grew exponentially! I found such joy in speaking with others and nurturing the hurts and pains we go through in this life. Being a counselor here at Alliance is one of the greatest honors bestowed upon me while at Alliance. It is such an honor to walk with you all through the many different journeys that are present here in alliance!
My personal goals in counseling are to provide a safe and comforting space for everyone who walks in through the doors and to walk with my clients through the various journeys they take in life. You are welcomed here! I can’t wait to continue to work with my clients as well as meet new ones as they come along!! It’s such an honor to be included in your lives and I do not take it for granted, thank you so much!!!
💜
Thank you for all your hard work, Eliza!

Happy December everyone! ❄️
As the semester is nearing its end and deadlines and finals are quickly approaching, AUCC would like to share an important topic, Self-Care. Self-Care is often thrown to the wayside in the midst of stress and busy schedules. However, it has been shown to not only promote emotional health but also limit stress, improve concentration and keep us grounded in the midst of all of the busyness we experience.
Let’s start off the last month of the semester strong and talk about ways that practicing self-care can benefit you, even during this busy season.

Happy Thanksgiving from AUCC!

Happy Friday-before-break everyone! We’d like to introduce another one of our counselors! 💙
Hello, my name is Lea Cadet. I started my Alliance University journey in the Fall of 2019. After transferring from Mercy College’s Counseling Program, I took the leap of faith to join the AGSC program. This was one of the best decisions I have made. I have grown throughout my experience at Alliance, and I am thankful for my time here. I was blessed with the opportunity to be a counselor at Alliance University Counseling Center. I am enjoying my role and love serving the community of students.
My goal for counseling is to provide a safe space for my clients while walking alongside them as they go through their process within the counseling experience in order to heal and grow.
Grateful for all you do, Lea! 💙🙌🏼

“Being able to be your true self is one of the strongest components of good mental health.”
- Lauren Fogel Mersey, n.d
Not every mental health issue requires a diagnosis. Although this is a subcategory of a diagnosis the condition is still unknown and specific to each individual. At AUCC, we believe that each person comes into the counseling services with their own unique story. Our goal is to take the time to hear those unique stories, remain humble, and have a fresh curiosity for each person.
While mental health diagnoses are important in bringing clarity for those who are suffering, it is also important to understand that a person’s individual experience cannot be reduced to a diagnosis. Our counselors aim to provide the best care based on the unique background and experience of each person.
Quick check-in: What are you feeling right now and why?

Happy Friday, everyone! Excited to share with you all our very first Staff Spotlight of the year!
Hello, my name is Felicita Marie Johnson. I joined the Alliance community in the summer of 2011. Since I started Alliance University, formerly Nyack College, in 2011, the Rockland campus was my home away from home. From years 2013 to 2018, I served on the Residence Life team and grew a deep connection with the community. In 2019, I returned with the recognition that much of who I am today was shaped by the leadership, the values and professors at Alliance. After finding my passion in counseling I knew that the community I wanted to serve was the community that supported me during my worst and my best. As I return with a new role of a counselor, I relish the thought of giving to the students a support system that I received.
My personal goal for counseling is to empower and strengthen self-love within individuals, through a holistic approach by focusing on each person's values, health, and well-being. Providing individuals with strategies and resources that can self-sustain them to effortlessly implement holistic healthy routines in the mind and body is a goal of mine by the end of our time together.
I look forward to continuing to learn more about and serve the AU community.
We love you, Felicita! 🥰

Next Sunday, October 23rd, Alliance University Counseling Center will be joining the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention for their annual “Out of the Darkness” community walks.
Su***de is the 12th leading cause of death in the US, and there were approximately 1.2 million su***de attempts in 2020 alone.* We believe that with advocacy, support, and awareness, su***de can be prevented. If you or a loved one have struggled with thoughts of su***de, please consider walking with us as we join many others in the fight for su***de awareness and prevention!
To register for the walk, please use the link in our bio and click ‘Join Our Team.’ If you are unable to make it, please consider donating directly to AFSP!

Meet our last (but certainly not least!) intern, Brittney! 💙
•
Hi everyone! My name is Brittney Cruz and I'm currently finishing up my internship at the Nyack College Counseling Center. I completed my BA in Psychology at Nyack's undergraduate program and will be graduating with my MA in Mental Health Counseling from AGSC. I am a native New Yorker and am of Puerto Rican descent.
•
I love to bake, dance, and play games. I love all things creative from illustrative art to photography to sculpting. My favorite painting medium is oil paints.
Much like an oil painting, working towards mental health requires time, love, and patience.
•
I believe that God has given me the honor of being able to meet people where they are and walk with them through their process and in that process, a masterpiece is being formed.
Yes! We love you, Brittney! 🙌🏼💙

Happy Wednesday everyone! We have another spotlight for y’all. Say hey to Neh! 🥰
•
Hi! My name is Nehanda, but most people call me Neh for short. I've been an intern at Nyack's Counseling Center since May 2021. I am passionate about working with college students specifically, as I was once a recipient of counseling services in undergrad that enabled me to change the trajectory of my life and overcome traumatic experiences.
•
I'm proud to say that I beat addiction in my early 20's, and in 2018, I gained my credentials as a substance abuse counselor in New York State and a Certified Addiction Recovery Coach.
•
Other than counseling, I am a proud native Brooklynite, a published author of a book of letters and poems, and I hope to become a wife and mother and raise a healthy and happy family with all I've learned in my practice as a therapist and in my own therapeutic journey.
•
Fun Facts:
- I enjoy long drives with good music.
- I like watching reality TV to take a break from the mundane parts of life.
- My therapist was a graduate level counselor when we met and began working together almost ten years ago. She's a huge part of my inspiration to be a counselor myself.
💜
We love you, Neh!

Staff Spotlights are back! Please show some love to our one and only (truly as he our only male counselor!), Matthew! 🤩
•
Hey everyone! My name is Matthew Iong, and I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY but moved to Queens when I was ten. I am a first-generation Chinese American. My bachelor’s degree is in criminology from John Jay College. I am grateful that I can work as a Mental Health Counseling Intern at the Nyack Counseling Center, where I enjoy seeing clients grow relationally and emotionally.
•
I believe that bringing awareness to the unconscious materials can help individuals grow in self-discovery and develop a greater sense of self-awareness. As a student in my final year in my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, I have developed a greater understanding that with counseling, change can occur.
•
I love spending time micro soldering and restoring old video game consoles, reading Christian literature, playing video games, collecting headphones, listening to music, riding my bike, and playing/buying various board games. Some new hobbies I want to try to get into are 3D printing and creating game trays to organize game pieces. Another hobby is learning how to build a dedicated space for music listening.

Yay! We love you, Matthew! 😊

•
Remember that loving yourself and self-care is a daily commitment. How we love others reflects how we love ourselves!
•
Take time to think about how you take care of yourself on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. What is something from this post that you can incorporate into your routine? 🥰
