By now we’re all aware of the situation between Will Smith and Chris Rock as Will defended his wife from derogatory comments about Jada’s hair. Jada has been bravely forthcoming about her Alopecia and as women we are so super sensitive about how we come across with our hair because Hair = Femininity in most cultures. Within the world of Hair Loss there are many different opinions on Microneedling. It’s a well known treatment used in the world of skin care. However, the great results that one would get in skin care you can also get in those areas of your scalp with hair loss. There are different names for it also. Some say Microneedling, some say Dermarolling! Used along with a treatment plan from your Dermatologist and used with Minoxidil you can see some great results!

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month.

Over 50 million adults suffer from hair loss in the US. Alopecia, the medical term for hair loss, has a variety of different forms. Some forms of alopecia are easily treated while others remain a challenge.

Dermatologists are the experts in all forms of hair loss. Consult a dermatologist early to get a proper diagnosis and treatment regimen. Most, but not all, insurance plans cover alopecia, so don’t waste time or money until you have seen a dermatologist.

Here are a few tips for your hair loss appointment:

⚠️ Expect that ONLY hair loss will be addressed at that visit. A thorough evaluation of hair loss is very detailed and time intensive. Plan to discuss other issues like acne, cosmetics, etc at a follow-up appointment.

🔎 Please make sure your full scalp is visible. No weaves, wigs, braids, or scarves that cannot be removed in their entirety. I don’t care if your hair loss is “only in the front” sis. Lemme see that whole scalp.

💉Be prepared to have a biopsy or lab work. Often, but not always, your doctor will need to do more testing to diagnose your hair loss.

⏰ Time is hair, so save yourself another trip and be prepared for a successful visit.
