Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes respiratory illness among persons of all age groups. RSV is one of the most common causes of childhood illness and is the most common cause of hospitalization in infants. It also causes severe disease and hospitalizations in older adults, especially those with certain chronic medical conditions.
Abrysvo vaccine is now FDA-approved as a single intramuscular dose for the prevention of lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) caused by RSV in adults aged ≥ 18 years (previously aged ≥ 60 years) who are at increased risk of severe consequences due to underlying medical conditions (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, heart failure, and diabetes). Abrysvo is also approved for active vaccination of pregnant women (32-36 weeks of gestation) for the prevention of LRTD caused by RSV in infants from birth through age 6 months.
To learn more about this vaccine and all other vaccines we offer, please call our office at 212-734-3000.

STAY INFORMED!
ACAM2000 (smallpox and mpox replication-competent vaccinia virus vaccine; Emergent BioSolutions) is now FDA-approved as a single percutaneous dose for the prevention of mpox in persons at high risk for mpox virus infection, in addition to the existing indication for smallpox. This vaccine, previously authorized under Emergency Use Authorization, has shown efficacy in protecting against mpox virus exposure based on extensive human and animal studies. As trusted resources for travel health, we encourage everyone, especially those at high risk, to stay informed about vaccination options.

We are pleased to inform you that the New York Center for Travel and Tropical Medicine is now providing the IXCHIQ Chikungunya virus vaccine. This vaccine is recommended for individuals aged 18 and above who are at increased risk of exposure to Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and prevents disease caused by this virus.

The CHIKV-carrying mosquitos are present in tropical and subtropical regions of the world including Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and parts of the Americas, posing the highest risk of infection. Because of climate change, we are seeing increased risk in popular tourist destinations such as Puerto Rico, other Caribbean islands, as well as Central and South America. Chikungunya is a particularly serious infection because it may lead to chronic arthritis symptoms even in young adults.
To learn more about this vaccine and all other vaccines we offer, please call our office at 212-734-3000 or schedule an appointment.
