Our thanks to New York City Ballet for providing tickets to a sensory-friendly performance of The Nutcracker. Paul, one of the people we support, had a wonderful time with his family, saying:

"It was wonderful to attend an inclusive event. So much was done to support people: break rooms, an advance social story, fidget toys, friendly staff, etc. My favorite was the 'no shushing' rule, which was written in the program and announced before the performance began."

This year, we are honored to mark the 80th anniversary of Constructive Partnerships Unlimited — a remarkable milestone that reflects eight decades of unwavering dedication, transformative support, and visionary service to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

From our inception in 1946 as a coalition of passionate parents seeking better services and advocacy for their children, the organization has grown into a cornerstone of community-based support and empowerment. What began as the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State has evolved through decades of innovation, leadership, and service — always grounded in dignity, person-centered values, and the belief that every individual deserves a fulfilling life.

In 2019, when we became CP Unlimited, the goal was to expand our services to additional audiences and serve even greater numbers of people in need. I am proud to see our landscape now incorporative of wheelchair clinics, field-wide trainings, emergency housing options, hospital step down programs, and social care networks, all of which provide more secure foundations from which to provide further assistance.

Our legacy is marked by forwarding a vision for the world where people with disabilities are part of the fabric of society. The role of CPU in advancing deinstitutionalization, expanding residential and day habilitation programs, and advocating at all levels for inclusive partnerships and considerations have made our state more accessible for millions of New Yorkers. While there are still steps to take, we will move forward together with determination and optimism.

As we celebrate this momentous anniversary, we honor the many pioneering figures who helped shape our vital organization as well as every staff member, partner, and advocate who made us who we are today.

Congratulations to all of us on 80 remarkable years and here is to 80 more!

Welcoming 2026: The Cabrini Health Foundation continued their deep support of CP Unlimited with a $1M grant to continue and expand the Agency’s complimentary wheelchair evaluation, maintenance, repair, and cleaning clinics throughout New York.

The generous contribution empowers CP Unlimited’s Rehabilitation Team to offer wheelchair clinics that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans, and others use their wheelchairs with greater comfort, safety, and reliability throughout New York State.

The grant allows trained technicians the opportunity to inspect and calculate how best to serve people who use wheelchairs; this can mean a simple repair to full replacement of their chair to help an individual reach new levels of mobility and independence. In addition, a regular series of wheelchair clinics provides recurring opportunities to cleanse and sanitize up to 40 chairs at a time. The funding will also permit CPU to continue servicing power wheelchair users, preserve a train-the-trainer program for I/DD partners statewide, and to implement new and innovative artificial intelligence and smart technology to advance the capability of participants.

The Foundation was inspired and encouraged by the ongoing popularity and reach of the wheelchair clinics: Since 2021, CP Unlimited has reached tens of thousands of individuals statewide and expanded the audience through senior homes, events by local politicians, and community health fairs. In 2025, the Agency serviced over 11,000 people through direct service and outreach campaigns.

The generous contribution empowers CP Unlimited’s Rehabilitation Team to offer wheelchair clinics that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans, and others use their wheelchairs with greater comfort, safety, and reliability throughout New York State.
