"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."
-- Albert Schweitzer, a remarkable polymath and humanitarian who lived from 1875 to 1965. He was a German-French theologian, philosopher, musician, and physician. His most famous philosophy was "Reverence for Life," which argued that all life, from the smallest insect to a human being, is sacred and has a right to exist. This principle guided his work as both a doctor and a humanitarian. For his commitment to this ideal and his tireless work in Africa, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.
