Our Century of Black History Tea Party was an inspiring afternoon of reflection, leadership, and meaningful dialogue. We were honored to welcome Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Joy Bivins of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York Public Library, and Senator Cordell Cleare for a powerful conversation on visibility, mentorship, and Black history through the lens of culture, representation, and leadership. Special thanks to Assemblymember Eddie Gibbs for continuing to show up in support of Metropolitan and for taking the time to welcome our staff.

We also made sure to continue the celebration with our overnight team so they could feel a part of the day’s festivities. Creating space for everyone to share in the experience — no matter their shift — truly mattered to us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the stories and shared wisdom that continue to shape future generations.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Our staff always show up with great energy and pride, bringing vibrant colors, traditions, and culture to life throughout the hospital. From festive decorations to shared treats, the spirit of the celebration is felt in every corner.

And our patients? They love it. They join in the festivities, snap photos, and celebrate right alongside us — creating moments of joy, connection, and community.

Wishing everyone a year filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity!

Our CAB Chair, James Ratti, was honored by the NYPD 25th Precinct for his outstanding contributions to the community in East Harlem. Our team was there to support him alongside New York State Senator Jose M. Serrano and The Office of Council Member Dr. Yusef Salaam, making this recognition even more meaningful.

We are beyond proud of our Chair and grateful for his continued leadership and dedication.

Together, we look forward to continuing our work to expand access to healthcare and serve the communities we deeply care for.

Even during the storm, our staff showed up and kept Metropolitan running. No matter what department, our Metropolitan family showed up to ensure our hospital remained safe, clean, and fully operational for patients and staff.

These photos capture just a glimpse of the dedication, teamwork, and resilience it takes to keep care moving forward—especially when conditions are challenging.

Thank you to our staff for always stepping up when it matters most.

The New York City Department of Social Services has deployed warming busses citywide. Additional warming spaces are available at 11 NYC Health + Hospital facilities and 13 school locations. New Yorkers should contact 311 or visit a LinkNYC kiosk for the nearest site.

Department of Homeless Services (DHS) continues to operate under enhanced Code Blue protocols. During Code Blue, shelters operate under an open-door policy. Outreach teams are connecting unsheltered New Yorkers to safe, warm space.

During a Code Blue, 311 is routed to 911 so first responders can mobilize quickly to reach the person in need. New Yorkers should call 311 if they see anyone in need of assistance.

Shoveling snow puts a huge strain on the body, and is especially dangerous for the elderly or those with heart conditions. If you must shovel, be aware of warning signs such as chest pain, shortness of breath, arm pain, dizziness, or extreme fatigue. These symptoms may indicate your body is overstressed and not capable of doing the job. Seek shelter immediately to get warm and rest. If symptoms persist, call 911 immediately. Learn more:

: We had the opportunity to welcome Trinidad and Tobago Consul General Mary Tang Yew and Vice Consul Jerome Ramdular. Our leadership team was excited to engage in a robust discussion about future opportunities to serve the Trinidadian and Tobagonian diaspora both here and in the Caribbean.

Our staff were thrilled to meet the dignitaries as they toured Metropolitan to see our facilities firsthand and learn more about the services we provide.

Thank you, Consul General Tang Yew and Vice Consul Ramdular. We look forward to building a strong partnership.
