Thank you for this fun interview about nail health and the recently popularized powder gels.

I published an article a few years ago in the medical literature about allergies to various types of nail procedures. In this article we discussed the potential nail damage that occurs with powder gel manicures. If you “have to” get them, try taking breaks in between to allow your nails a chance to recover. “So, what is skin patch testing?

A patch test assesses an individual's skin reaction to a variety of substances they might encounter in their daily lives, and is performed by applying purified allergens to the skin to see which — if any — cause an allergic reaction.

"Patch testing is the gold standard and only accurate way of diagnosing allergic contact dermatitis and identifying the allergen [causing it]," says Dr. Lazic Strugar. It can be performed by a dermatologist or an allergist, who will apply pre-made patches loaded with individual allergens in a grid on the body. “

As promised, here is the study I recently referenced. Dr. Fitzgerald changes how we view aging. Her team found that participants were able to reduce their biological age by 3 years in just 8 weeks! The best part is that the interventions they used are all things within reach, like eating a real-food diet rich in methyl-donor nutrients (scroll through slides for details), prioritizing sleep, reducing stress, and getting regular exercise. It’s never too late to start changing your body for the better, from the inside out, and turning back time!

What do you see as the hardest part of making these lifestyle changes? For me, its the exercise part, always has been the greatest challenge.

I am two days away from another surgery to fight my stage 4 colon cancer. This time it an open abdomen surgery (not laparoscopic like the first one) in order to install a pump inside my abdomen (which will stay inside me for many years to come) that will deliver chemotherapy directly to my liver metastases. I am saying goodbye to my gallbladder, too, it has to be removed as a part of this treatment protocol as it cannot handle the high dose local chemo that’s coming.

❤️I wanted to take this moment to thank ALL 50K OF YOU for your support. I have been positively overwhelmed by the amount of support from both those who know me and even so many of you who don’t. Thank you for sharing your stories with me, for your prayers, for the love. It means to world to me.

Thanks for including my thoughts on the most common types of cysts I see in clinical practice as a dermatologist. The great news is that most of them are benign (healthy) and can be removed by a dermatologist if bothersome.

If you enjoy watching cyst removals, check out some of my previous videos where I surgically remove them (I think I posted a few gross ones around Halloween last year).

Allergy season is here, on top of everything. With that comes sneezing and dry eyes, or maybe itchy skin and puffy eyes.

Although this article was published in Vogue earlier in the pandemic, my recommendations for tackling allergies remain the same. Hope this helps. Link to full article in bio.

I know that this distinction between a retinoid and retinol can be confusing, as we often use the terms interchangeably. Both are forms of vitamin A used for anti-aging (by helping build collagen and increase cell turnover/shedding of dead skin cells, thus unclogging pores, helping with dull or uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and acne).

This slide explains their differences. In summary, retinoids are stronger and more effective, the trade-off being that they can cause more irritation, at least initially.

Check out some of my recent retinol/retinoid posts to find out how to use these and specific product recs.

And if after watching those videos you still gave questions, feel free to drop your questions in comments.
