Can you really choose the gender of your baby during IVF?

Here’s what you should know…

When embryos are created during IVF, some families choose to do PGT-A testing (preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy). This testing checks for chromosomal health and can also reveal the biological s*x of each embryo.

While it’s not about “designer babies,” it can give parents the option to select an embryo based on s*x... often for family balancing, medical reasons, or personal preferences.

Here’s what happens during IVF.

It begins with egg retrieval, where a tiny needle gently collects eggs from the ovaries, guided by ultrasound.

Then comes fertilization, where s***m meets egg in the lab — either naturally or through a method called ICSI.

The next few days are all about careful monitoring as embryos develop. Some may undergo assisted hatching to help with implantation.

Finally, the moment so many dream of — embryo transfer. A delicate catheter places the embryo into the uterus, where hope truly begins to grow.

In the 1940s, long before IVF became a reality, Miriam Menkin made history by successfully fertilizing a human egg in a lab for the first time.

Her discovery laid the foundation for in vitro fertilization (IVF), a breakthrough that has since helped millions of families around the world conceive.

Her determination and research paved the way for the first “test-tube” baby, making parenthood possible for those who once thought it was out of reach.

Without her work, modern fertility treatments wouldn’t be where they are today.
