Autism and neurodivergent disorders are dynamic, multi factorial conditions. We focus heavily upon advanced age of the mother’s eggs (over 35 years) and her exposures.
What we don’t talk about is advanced PATERNAL age (ALSO over the age of 35).
Advanced age male s***m DNA changes leading to mutations in methylation, this contributes significantly to the neuro development of a baby. Every 10 yrs beyond the age of 35 adds to the risk significantly.
Mom’s eggs can play a role but it appears as though mom’s environmental exposures during pregnancy deliver the second insult, first being dad’s dna.
This may change the older man/younger woman dynamic surrounding conception?
I’ll delve a little into when I share my research presentation during the ILADS conference this Fall in San Antonio.
The floor is open for discussion.
For the men out there, are your providers having discussions surrounding this with you for family planning?
I propose men also should take a prenatal to support methylation and should also follow the advanced age rule that is fervently discussed with women by reproductive/ family planning providers.
