It’s tempting to try and predict where our path will lead. To cast our minds eye to the future - construct the ideal scenario/outcome, to run through every possible twist and turn so that we can have some semblance of preparation or control. But doing so misses the point. We won’t have the tools we need to navigate our “future” until we arrive there. And we will only ever arrive “there” in the present moment.
In our quest for preparation, we risk missing out on the gift of the present. The richness of our current phase of life. The peace of the “in-between”. It’s easier said than done (and something I’m actively working on!) but I’m realizing more and more - the greater risk is not arriving to the future unprepared. The greater risk is arriving to the future and looking back, wishing I had savored more of the past, when it was “present”.
