We are honored to be selected as a presenter for the NASW NYS Chapter Continuing Education Conference 2026, taking place on May 29, at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.
This year’s theme, "One New York, One Voice: Reimagining Social Work for a Just Future," centers equity, justice, and collective power across our profession.
Our session is titled, “SOLAR: An Academic–Practice Partnership to Build an Equity-Driven Addiction & Recovery Leadership Pipeline.” The presentation will highlight the SOLAR (Social Work Opportunities for Leadership in Addiction and Recovery) program we developed in partnership with (SBU). Attendees will learn how to adapt core SOLAR elements to their own organizations and gain the tools to replicate the innovative work/academic initiative.
SOLAR provides frontline and mid-level social services staff with a pathway toward a Master's Degree in Social Work. Samaritan Daytop Village and Stony Brook University worked together to design the SOLAR program, which combines academic classes, a work-compatible internship, and mentorships.
Kudos to the presenters and developers of SOLAR: SBU School of Social Welfare Associate Clinical Professor and Director of Online Education Melissa J. Earle, and Samaritan Daytop Village's VP of Residential Treatment and Recovery Services Jim Hollywood and AVP of Residential Treatment Harry Scott.
The conference is offered in a hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual options. We hope you’ll join us.
