Just want to give this CBD brand a plug - the bath soaks are AMAZING! (would not have been able to do the stone work at the garden if it wasn't for this soak afterwards!) As I continue to live with MBC (over 5 years now) and the side effects of the daily meds cocktail, I'm needing ways to quickly rest and restore more and more. Give them some love!

I’ve not posted in a while, as I’ve been living life - family, work (ok, lots of work), gardening, and….did I say family?

While I was hoping to give more definitive good news after the most recents scans (which was quite the debacle this past time, read onward), it’s still good.

The bone scan from last week showed “Improved metastases in T8-10. No new metastases.” But the cat scan still shows some in my T12. Shows stable and no new metastases. Overall, I’m now considered NEAD - no evidence of advancing disease.

For bone metastases there is no remission. There is no cure, just cancer for life. But being NEAD is the next best thing, so I’ll take it.

And after 4 years of getting scans every 3 months, this past routine visit was a nightmare. Mount Sinai has changed the way the doctors schedule scans at radiology for the patients, and it’s pretty much torture. Here’s to hoping they get their crap together in 6 months. Any bets?

Very grateful that my body responds well to medicine and that I’m stable (knock on wood).

While my news is positive, there are so many out there who are not so fortunate. Who don’t respond well to medicine, whose cancer has randomly jumped, who search for even adequate healthcare and professionals to help them simply survive.

It’s not October. It’s not the first of the month. It’s no special day. But it’s always a good time to check yourself and check in on someone you know who has cancer.

“How are you doing?” is such a loaded question. It’s much better to ask “How are you doing TODAY?” or even “How are you doing RIGHT NOW?” Less loaded and you’re likely to get a genuine answer.

Yesterday, I braved the snowstorm to make my appt with my Dr. Reconstruction. Turns out both implants have slight ruptures. So after I meet with my oncologist next week, we’ll select a date to do a replacement out-patient surgery.

But good news…..I GET AN UPGRADE! That’s right, implants have improved in 12 years so I’m getting the deluxe! Same size, will remove some of the scar tissue left over in the right from radiation.

Didn’t plan for this in 2024, but then again do we really plan for any of this?

Also, love how this doctor is upfront about co-pay costs, insurance fiasco and patient rights. One of the many reasons I’ve loved his office for the past 13 years.

This week, I saw my reconstruction surgeon and had an MRI. Don’t worry, I’m stable as F* .

Last cat scan showed that I may have ruptured my implants. They have a 10years life, and are 12 years old. So, the MRI is to confirm.

FYI - besides the apocalyptic alarms during an MRI, for a breast one you lie on your stomach and stick your b***s into 2 holes while your face is forced to lay on this wanna be massage table pad. But as you can see, it wasn’t comfortable at all.

There’s a post appt with my surgeon next week, so if needed I’ll have an out patient surgical procedure to replace my implants. New b***s in 2024!

Also, love how his office is upfront about insurance, premiums and patient bill of rights.

It’s October, and I just had my 6 week check-in…so be aware.
Be aware that 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.
Be aware that breast cancer comes in all shapes and forms, and sometimes not at all.
Be aware that every cancer, diagnosis, treatment, side effect and post are unique to that person.
Be aware that even tho we may look ok on the outside, we are not always ok on the inside.
Be aware that 30% of those women will have a reoccurrence, either local or regional.
Be aware that if regional, you are metastatic, aka stage 4.
Be aware that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t always mean a death sentence.
Be aware that the majority of the time a cancer diagnosis is treatable and curable.
Be aware that science and medicine are a wondrous thing, and without them I wouldn’t be here today.
Be aware that you have rights as a patient.
Be aware that there are no statistics that can properly state the number of women, like me, living with metastatic breast cancer.
Be aware that if diagnosed with metastatic 10 years ago, I’d be given 3-5 years to live.
Be aware that I’ve been living with stage IV, metastatic breast cancer for three years now…and I plan on living to be 92.

Repost from

if anyone in Denver would be able to bring me caladryl lotion at DIA tomorrow morning, I would owe you my life.

This rash seems to be spreading. I’ve been taking benedryl and applying colloidal oatmeal lotion, but obviously that’s not working. Am going to apply cold water paper towels, as it’s on fire and itchy.

I’m predicting that I had a reaction to the sulphur in the hot springs and/or extreme heat, due to my meds. Somehow I’ve become ultra inflammatory, when I’ve never been allergic before in my life (says the girl who stood in a field of poison ivy without a single itch.)

It’s just making this attempt to return home all the more unbearable.

Meanwhile, I’m hoping we make the 1p flight out tomorrow, and that I’m able to find my luggage in the AM and recheck it. Twins are hanging in there.

What’s your recent airline fail story?

Wish it only took a spoonful of sugar to make these meds go down…

Crazy how overnight you can go from one one pill a day to over 10! What’s the daily dose?

Verzenio - 150mg, twice a day (targeted therapy for the MC. It goes after the protein in the cancer and shrinks and/or contains it. The protein is found elsewhere in your body, but predominantly in your cancer. 12 years ago, my infusion techs were talking about this drug in trials, based on the same mRNA research as the covid vaccine.). This drug is the reason I can’t drink coffee (dehydrates & gives me the trots.) Without insurance, this would cost $12k a month.

Anastrazole - aromatase inhibitor, once a day (the worst side effects, feel like i’m 80yo when I sit for too long; cumulative side effect is osteoporosis)

Eliquis - 5mg twice a day, blood thinner to prevent another stroke

Lipitor - even tho for cholesterol, helps prevent strokes

Calcium - 1300+mg, to help with osteoporosis

VitD - to help with Calcium

Zinc - to boost immunity

Probiotic - to balance my gut at night due to all of the meds

Claritin - to help with constant sinus drip, now occurring in WTC victims who lived/worked in the zone.

V8 energy drink - daily dose of VitC, plus enough caffeine in its green tea contents as a Red Bull

Xgeva injection (not pictured) - taken every 3 months to help with onset of osteoporosis

THC - v**e, smoke or edible. Takes the edge and achiness off, and also helps with sleep.

the world has lost true legend. I quote Dr. Susan Love’s ‘The Breast Book’ in the podcast. Her research, foundation and advocacy work for women and breast cancer can not be duplicated.

May she rest in peace and may we carry on her legacy.

Repost from

Susan M. Love, MD, MBA, who led Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research since 1995, steering the Foundation through its innovative and life-changing research and advocacy programs, has died. She was 75.

Dr. Love passed away on July 2, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.

Foundation CEO Christopher Clinton Conway said he and the Foundation, as well as millions worldwide, are “indebted to Dr. Love’s vision, dedication, and commitment to ending breast cancer for all”.

“The light that Susan shared with the world has touched so many, and the world will mourn her loss. As an advocate, a researcher, a doctor, a surgeon, a friend, an author, and so much more, her legacy will live on forever in the love she showed the world.”
