Thanks for rescuing this beauty, Wild Bird Fund!

This gorgeous juvenile red-tailed hawk was rescued from the Pratt University campus after hanging around there several hours on low perches and eventually on the ground. She was easily handled and by the time she arrived, was unable to stand.

We treated her for potential rodenticide poisoning, but we suspect a trauma, such as a window collision. She’s also emaciated, so there’s likely an underlying condition that prompted the accident.

After a couple of days of supportive care and medications, she’s perching and alert, but still quiet. We really hope to see this trend continue with additional care.

It’s a tough life for young raptors — anywhere, but especially in an urban environment. We have the great honor of being the emergency room for so many of these young birds who become sick or injured here in NYC. August is Clear the Shelters month, and we need your help! 🐾

We’re excited to once again be joining NBC10 Philadelphia, Telemundo 62, NBCUniversal, and Inspire Federal Credit Union to “Clear the Shelters” this month! Throughout the month of August, we’ll be highlighting the many adoptable pets in our shelter and celebrating some of our shelter alumni and their new lives with their forever families.
