Did you receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least five months ago? Then it's time to get your booster shot!

Remember: A third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people who are immunocompromised because they many not build the same amount of immunity after getting vaccinated.

A booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccine to provide added protection after your initial vaccination series.

The COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe disease and death, including against the delta variant. But no vaccine is 100% effective at preventing infection.

So what does this mean for fully vaccinated people?
💪While you could become infected, you are nearly 10 times less likely to be hospitalized due to COVID-19.
🤒You will be contagious for a shorter period of time than people who are unvaccinated.
🤧Even if you do experience a “breakthrough infection” or a positive diagnosis, that does not mean that it will result in serious illness.

The COVID-19 vaccines continue to offer good protection and are particularly strong at preventing severe disease. Although breakthrough cases do occur and are expected with any vaccine, they are rare. As of early August, 0.33% of fully vaccinated New Yorkers have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The vast majority (over 96%) of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths have been in people who are unvaccinated.
