Working on reigniting spark and intimacy in relationship

A common experience among many of my clients in long-term relationships is that the spark is gone and intimacy is waning. Much of that is a result of feeling disconnected to your partner. Here is a simple exercise I usually recommend to my clients to get started on brining back that spark. It only takes 5 minutes.

Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. Sit facing each other, close enough to touch but not touching yet. Take a few deep breaths together to relax. You can hold hands if it feels comfortable. Look into each other’s eyes. Try to hold the gaze without talking or laughing. Focus on your partner’s eyes and what you see in them. It might feel awkward at first, but that's okay.

As you maintain eye contact, notice what emotions come up. You might feel love, vulnerability, or even discomfort. Let these feelings flow naturally. After 5 minutes, gently share your experience with each other. What did you feel? What did you see in your partner's eyes?

This simple exercise can help you reconnect on a deeper level, reminding you of the love and connection that brought you together in the first place. Try making this a regular practice to keep the intimacy alive.

How to get Unstuck in Relationships

In relationships we sometimes encounter moments where we feel like we're hitting a wall, unable to move forward or make positive changes.

In my practice I use a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and somatic exercises to empower individuals and couples with their emotions.

EFT delves deep into the emotional bonds between partners, helping to identify and reshape negative patterns of interaction. Through compassionate exploration and understanding of underlying emotions, they break free from cycles of conflict and disconnection.

In the context of relationships, CBT can help individuals recognize and reframe unhelpful beliefs about themselves and their partners and become unstuck.

Sometimes, the key to unlocking "stuckness" lies in the body. Somatic exercises focus on connecting with bodily sensations and releasing stored tension and trauma. By tuning into physical experiences, such as breath, movement, and posture, individuals can access deeper layers of awareness and healing.

Feeling stuck and disempowered is a common experience, but it doesn't have to define your relationship.
