Kurama Fire Festival has been a bucket list dream for years. ❤️‍🔥 It has nothing to do with Reiki other than sharing its birthplace with the practice. But in an extraordinary twist of fate, my friends, students and I got to experience it tonight like I never could have imagined in VIP seats on the mountain! 👺

It’s an annual procession of enormous lighted torches built by local families and businesses, as well as portable shrines carried on the backs of villagers to tour homes in Kurama in Kyoto, Japan. It commemorates the legend of a Shinto god whose temple was moved to the mountain in 940 A.D.

I can’t believe I got to experience it this way! Not just the incredible access to the festival but sharing it after a day of listening to my favorite Reiki scholar drop knowledge and introducing some of my Reiki students to this magical mountain! ⛰️🔥

Sharing a poorly photographed but spectacular sunset from this weekend’s Reiki workshop . It reminded me of the gorgeousness of change and impermanence (even when uncomfortable or painful.) As much as I’d love to see the sky in this fashion more often, its passing will bring new light and renewal in more ways than we can imagine, and we can carry the blessing of this sky onwards as we look at new ones.

Grateful for this time, this place, the connections with brave souls who opened their hearts to new experiences, and excited for the ways it will amplify the light within us as we seek to share it with others.

The New Bests.

A few years ago, I had the rare and wonderful opportunity to sit with the great Norman Lear. I didn't know how I would converse with a man who's thoughtful and critically acclaimed TV writing raised this latchkey kid of working immigrant parents with relatable characters and deep belly laughing.

I was in the midst of a grief-shook time and the US election cycle was unprecedentedly stirring everyone to hate and fear for votes, and it was probably the lowest I've felt in my life. I asked Norman - who had fought in WWII and saw our country through Vietnam and and the fight for civil rights - "Is this THE worst? It really feels like THE worst!"

He said.. Oh, Diane, this IS the worst! BUT Hi**er was THE worst. Vietnam was THE worst. This is the new worst! But I find the worst gives us the opportunity to find THE BEST. Make THE best now.

It's a conversation I've come back to so many times for inspiration and solace, and I am so grateful for Norman Lear.

A MUST READ.

I’m on my way to Reiki class on a very rainy NYC day! ☔️ While teaching Reiki may be my favorite activity, I’d equally love to spend the whole day with this book! 📖✨

I really don’t recommend many books on Reiki - it’s a practice that I feel strongly must be learned experientially with a teacher and its history is traditionally shared orally. But, you’ll find no better book on the latter as Dr. Justin Stein’s years of research and passion for the subject pour out of every page.

Is this dog a Reiki practitioner? 🤔

In class this past weekend, a student asked me if I thought dogs can share Reiki. And, I do! In fact, I believe without or at least with fewer obstacles from ego, plants and animals are more naturally attuned to channeling and imparting this positive life energy. ⚡️ We know that trees cleanse our air and bathe our auras, flowers lift our spirits, and animals can love unconditionally and even walk us through trauma and death. 💖 And, I know Lucy Domondon loves to peacefully lay paws, and dogs and humans alike are always enchanted with her sweet, joyful spirit! 🐶

By popular request, some pics from that glorious weekend teaching Reiki . Full disclosure: these photos do very little justice to this magical place! ✨I wish I could capture the feeling of finding yourself in the midst of a kaleidoscope of butterflies or flock of bluebirds, the fragrances of lavender, eucalyptus and rosemary that envelop you at different turns, or the soundscape of crashing ocean waves and raging river waters. And, I’m missing the beautiful people exploring their human potential, self-healing and receiving Reiki from this land. 🌈🪷🦋💫💖
