Nothing screams self-sabotage more than a person who keeps cycling the same old behavior, fueled by the same ole maladaptive thoughts, battling with someone who has degrees in Psychology and is knowledgeable to identify poor coping skills.
The sad part is a person will come to you expecting you to mirror said destructive behavior and engage in the escapism and psychosis he/she employs as "being aware."
The Client will take what you have to say personal because they are unable to accept any accountability or criticism. Challenging a false truth is a high reactive point.
Imagine being an alcoholic going to a detox center and expecting them to understand your struggle by providing you with shots of alcohol until you are ready to give up, whilst cycling your victim story.
Sad part is manipulation is so imbedded in their toxicity they expect people to acquiesced by using emotional punishment of quietness and avoidance to gain control.
(in my most condescending voice) Sweetheart, the only person you're hurting is yourself. You're free to stay toxic.
