After my neighborhood’s forced evacuation during the LA fires, I felt completely overwhelmed by the uncertainty of the city and of course am still heartbroken in many ways.
From a confused place—and still not being allowed back to my thankfully standing home—an inner voice reminded me to go somewhere that has always been healing.
I made my way to Santa Fe, a city I consider a home away from home, not knowing when I’d feel ready to return to LA.
I was lucky enough to be able to choose fresh air, mostly blue skies, grounding, inspiration from Santa Fe’s culture, and quiet when everything felt uncertain.
Not because it was easy, and not without guilt for temporarily leaving, but because I knew I needed it.
Self-kindness isn’t always neat or convenient.
It’s often messy, uncomfortable, and full of questions.
But it’s also an act of trust:
Trusting that you’re allowed to pause.
Trusting that your needs matter, even when life feels chaotic.
If you’ve been holding your breath, waiting for the ‘right time’ to care for yourself—maybe this is your sign.
I’m here, holding space for those moments through therapy in NY & NJ (telehealth) and in the 20’s & 30’s women’s group with We All Feel.
