We often hear people say "have some empathy." Some individuals are confused with the difference between empathy and sympathy. Sympathy is understanding the other person's suffering from your own perspective. Empathy is connecting to the other person's feelings and understanding why they have these feelings. There are three types of empathy:
1️⃣ Cognitive Empathy - It is putting yourself in one's shoes and understanding why they feel the way they do.
2️⃣ Compassion empathy - being compassionate and have the ability to understand how they feel and take action on their behalf without letting your emotions take over.
3️⃣ Affective Empathy - having a shared emotional experience, feeling what the other is feeling.
Learning to be more empathetic helps us better co-exist and support our community.
