While I want to eat as in season as possible, asparagus are one of my favorite veggies and they are on sale right now. So even though they aren’t growing here in yet, I can’t resist buying a bunch every time I go to the store.
Today’s lunch or dinner will include all the roasted asparagus I can manage!

Yesterday, I taught for the last time in this space. Not to say I’ll never teach there again, but I’m moving on to different things (more to come soon).
15 years ago I opened as a studio. This used to be a small apartment turned into a storage space. I helped gut the apartment, raised the ceilings, took out walls, the bathroom, the kitchen. We pulled off faux wood wall paneling and hung sheet rock. We pulled the old floors and laid this beautiful floor. It was a dream come true. I’m so proud of what I built here and I’m looking forward to what happens next for both this space under the direction of , and for me in a new job where I hope to share the wisdom of yoga and Ayurveda to more people.
There’s lots changing in the world. This space has been a constant fir me for 15 years. I’m feeling all kinds of things these days, but the big one is gratitude to those who share this space with me and tempered it into a most meaningful and beautiful space I could ever hope to create.

The day after Christmas. It’s cold. The branches on the trees I see out my window are white with frost. I have a cat on my lap and am drinking hot water while contemplating life. It’s what we do this time of year, right? I wish all of you a moment of peace to reflect on life.

Hunting season is passed, so we can go into the woods again.
It’s winter. The air is cold and dry. The ground is hard (unless it rains for two days), and it’s the time of year I start wanting to hole up and stay home.
The problem is…it’s also the time of year that we have an excessive amount of things to do. I have plans every night this weekend. 🫣
So my yoga practice and my food choices will reflect the qualities that help me feel the opposite of busy. Slow flow or long holds in forward folds…or both. Gentle movement of the joints to get the synovial fluids flowing and keep my joints from drying out.
Squash and root veggies roasted and topped with a tahini based sauce to feel warm and grounded.

Online classes begin next week!
Mondays 6:30-7:30pm Wind Down from Your Monday Yoga: all skills welcome. Difficulty level depends on the day. Classes are designed to help you unwind and start your week off on the right foot. Unwinding might mean slow relaxing stretches or a little more challenging strength building to burn off the stress. Each week will be a little different.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-12:30 Lunchtime Express. These classes can be done in your office or anywhere that you can find a little space and a door to close. No yoga equipment or special clothing needed. All poses and breath work can be done easily in a small space. No yoga experience is necessary either. Just tune on and get a little movement and mental space.

Carol Keppler Hopper is leading a restorative class tomorrow night Friday, October 11th 6:30-7:30 at Live Oak Wellness - 70 Main Street in Greenwich (New York for those who don’t know). She’s offering a balance of breath work (pranayama), poses known to balance the nervous system and reduce anxiety. She will share a list of poses you can continue doing at home to restore a sense of calm and centered awareness.

Yoga absolutely helps reduce stress. You try to breathe and move and maybe even get to lie around for a little bit. is even more effective.
So go support your local yoga teachers and reduce your stress all at once!

So I tested positive for Covid Monday. I was pretty sick. It followed all the same markers as the first time I got it how ever many years ago...pre ayurveda training. This time I drank tulsi tea all day. two tea bags and I just kept adding hot water. I peed a lot, which is good. But also, my sinuses cleared easily and my cough is so much less than it was last time.
I know this is just an anecdote and that is by no means strong enough evidence to say that my experience proves this tea is amazing for fixing Covid and colds. Even Ayurveda says that what works for one person probably isn’t the best option for another and might even be contraindicated for yet another. But in this case it’s tea (I’m not qualified to offer herbs that could be actually harmful to some people), and it’s pleasant, and you’re getting hydrated, and maybe it is also clearing channels like the Ayurvedic doctors say it does.
(And yes…I did set this selfie up just right so you can see my cute doggie and the tea bag)
PS I had both a green tea blend for morning and plain tulsi the rest of the day.
