People stuff themselves with empty calories, yet their bodies are sick and undernourished and their spirits are drained. Like robots we are programmed into supporting a system that is literally killing us and our planet. Our food system, dependent on animal agriculture, is depleting our resources at alarming rates, destroying the planet and is simply unsustainable. The solutions exist and are relatively simple to incorporate in our personal lives. People need real information, real inspiration and the real tools to move forward. Her work has been featured in such newspapers as the New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle​, Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press, Texas Monthly, Denver Business Journal, Los Angeles Times, and US News & World Report. Gail’s first book, "Slaughterhouse, The Shocking Story of Greed, Neglect, and Inhumane Treatment Inside the U.S. Meat Industry" was published in 1997. Today on IT'S ALL ABOUT FOOD, 4pm: our guest is Delcianna J. Winders, associate professor of law and Director of the Animal Law and Policy Institute at Vermont Law and Graduate School.

In these challenging times, with government officials ignoring basic constitutional rights, think for a moment about the voiceless, those that can't protest, those that are exploited, tortured and murdered for their flesh. Farm animals raised for food are sensitive, caring individuals and billions every year are subject to cruelty, pain and suffering. And yes, the human workers suffer too, due to unsafe conditions and emotional trauma from the cries of the tortured animals they kill.

Animal law and policy is a growing field. Tune in to the interview with Delcianna Winders and hear about this important work. Nonhuman animals deserve to be treated with dignity and respect with protection against cruelty.
