Love that this mama showed up to her appointment carrying her support cushion! đź’•She wanted to sit outside in the beautiful NYC weather to work and knew she should protect her sacrum and tailbone. Pelvic alignment is so important not only in preventing aches and pains during pregnancy but also to help optimize baby's position and prepare for efficient labor and pushing.

Doulas are amazing! Which is why I highly recommend that all my pregnant patients have a doula as part of their birth team. 🤰🏼✨

They provide guidance throughout your pregnancy and support you and your partner through labor & delivery.

Doulas are compassionate, experienced, and beyond dedicated to their clients.
They can aid in managing pain during labor and work closely with your birth provider to help you have the best birth experience possible.

Here are the TOP 5 reasons you should have a prenatal chiropractor on your birth team 💫✨

1) Patients often report that they feel greater comfort & mobility after their chiropractic sessions.  They feel less muscle tightness and more aligned. I adjust their spine and stretch their muscles in addition to offering tools/tips for lifestyle changes that help them progress through each trimester.

2) Chiropractic care has been shown to decrease labor times.  With better alignment, there is less opportunity for dystocia or difficulty at birth, thus allowing for a reduction in the duration of labor.

3) During chiropractic sessions we create better alignment, balance and symmetry in the pelvis, assisting baby in getting into the best position for labor and pushing. We call this “optimal fetal position.”

4) Aches and pains are so common during pregnancy due to weight gain and postural changes.  A prenatal chiropractor can help not only decrease the pain, but also help to prevent it and keep patients feeling good throughout their pregnancy.

5) Regular chiropractic care throughout a pregnancy can aid in creating a safe and smooth labor and delivery.  Optimal pelvic alignment is so important.  Our goal along with the rest of a patients birth care team is to support them in having a safe and gratifying birth experience.

We are honored and grateful to be part of your birth team!

Weight gain in pregnancy is healthy and normal, with the average weight gain being 25 to 35 pounds. The belly gets heavy, contributing to middle and lower back pain as well as pelvic pressure. Prenatal chiropractic care, along with exercise and the use of a prenatal support belt, can help you have a healthier and more comfortable pregnancy.

Here is a breakdown of where those extra 30+ pounds are located by the time your baby is ready to be born:

💫 Baby: 7.5 pounds
Most full term babies weigh about 6 to 9 pounds at birth.
💫Placenta: 1.5 pounds
The placenta brings nutrients, oxygen and hormones to the baby and takes away waste products.
💫 Uterus: 2 pounds
Your uterus grows significantly to make room for your baby. Before you became pregnant, your uterus was about 3.5 inches long and weighed only 1/6 of a pound.
💫Amniotic Fluid: 2 pounds
Your baby is surrounded by the most amniotic fluid at around 34 weeks of pregnancy. By the time baby is full term, there is less of this clear, yellowish liquid.
💫 Breast Tissue: 2 pounds
Your breasts are growing as they prepare for breastfeeding.
💫 Blood Supply: 4 pounds
The amount of blood in your body almost doubles while you are pregnant.
💫Body Fluids: 4 pounds
This is the “water weight” that people talk about. If you’ve had swelling in your feet and ankles, you understand.
đź’« Maternal Fat Stores: 7 pounds
TOTAL: 30 pounds

When you’re pregnant, those extra pounds provide the energy that powers breastfeeding. Your body needs that extra energy to make the milk to feed your baby.

Damara started treatment when she was 8 weeks pregnant. She came in with some minimal aches and pains in her upper back, shoulders, and neck in the early weeks of pregnancy along with nausea, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. Her goals were to prevent severe episodes of pain during her pregnancy, prepare for labor and pushing, optimize fetal positioning, and feel her best throughout her pregnancy.

Damara’s Testimonial:

“Dr. Jaffe has been such an integral part of my prenatal team and pregnancy journey. I'm 100% positive that it's because of my frequent visits with her since 9 weeks pregnant that I have had such a smooth physical ride. I did not experience any back pain, pelvic pain, or round ligament pain... now, at almost 38 weeks, baby is head down and showing all the signs that she's ready for what we hope will be a natural labor and birth. Dr. Jaffe is not only my prenatal chiropractor but has been a wealth of knowledge, resources, and mental support. I joke that she doubles as my therapist (it really does feel like it!), and I look forward to our now every 1-2 week sessions. I really do believe she was an angel sent to me! I can't wait to bring our little girl to her for her first adjustment 🤗”

Hi! I’m Dr. Randi Jaffe!

I found chiropractic in my freshman year of college. One of my sorority sisters was heading off to chiropractic school and I was intrigued by the profession. After more research into the field and my first chiropractic adjustment, I was sold!

I received both my Doctor of Chiropractic degree and B.S. in Human Anatomy from the National University of Health Sciences in Illinois. I have a B.A. degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Oswego. In addition, I am certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and a certified Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner. I have done extensive postgraduate training in the areas of pre and postnatal care and pediatrics and am always looking to add to my knowledge and increase my hands-on skills.

Outside of work you’ll find me spending time with my husband, Michael, my two daughters, Sophia and Jessica, extended family and good friends. Movement is my medicine and
I love my Peloton bike, long walks outside, strength training and recently started pilates. I try to practice what I preach, staying on top of my own self care with acupuncture, massage, stretching, and of course, regular chiropractic adjustments.

Pregnancy, Postpartum, Pediatrics, Wellness/Family Care

PREGNANCY:
I am committed to helping you have a safe and comfortable pregnancy and birth. I see many women who come in for labor preparation. As a certified Webster Technique and Spinning Babies practitioner, we can help make sure that their muscles, ligaments, joints, pelvis and lower back are aligned and in optimal position. Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to decrease labor time, decrease pain or difficulty during the birth process. It is never too early or too late to see a chiropractor during pregnancy. I treat pregnant moms at all stages, even those trying to conceive. I am honored to be part of your birth team.

POSTPARTUM:
The postpartum period is one of the most amazing and challenging times in a woman’s life. Hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, and limited time for self-care can leave a mother feeling depleted. Chiropractic care aids in improving posture and flexibility while decreasing lingering pains from pregnancy and labor. Helping to realign the spine will improve overall function as a mother heals and prepares for an increase in activity in the months ahead.

PEDIATRICS:
From infancy to teen years, pediatric chiropractic is a growing option for many families. Adjustments are gentle and safe with specific techniques utilized and modifications made for each child’s age and size. The goal is to improve and optimize physiological function in the body. Common conditions we treat in infants and children are breastfeeding challenges including difficulty latching and/or tightness in the neck and jaw, plagiocephaly (flat spots on the head), torticollis, digestive issues (reflux, colic, constipation), atypical crawling patterns, scoliosis, decreased immune function and more.

WELLNESS/FAMILY CARE:
I also treat a wide variety of conditions in patients of all ages.
