Unlocking Brain Function: The Millisecond Precision of EEG
EEG is a millisecond-by-millisecond measure of electrical activity in the brain. It can be used to identify a variety of brain disorders, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy.
Dr. Hagedorn explains that EEG can also be used to measure the effects of treatment on the brain. For example, EEG can be used to track the progress of patients with Parkinson's disease who are undergoing deep brain stimulation.

Why early matters
The current standard practice is to diagnose Alzheimer’s as a syndrome, meaning physicians base their diagnosis on the clinical consequences of the disease (i.e., the symptoms). But research shows that 20 years or more before symptoms appear, the brain changes that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease begin15. And, according to The Lancet Neurology, dementia could be prevented or delayed for 40% of patients – the key is early detection and intervention.

🧠What is frontotemporal dementia?
➡️The nerve cell damage caused by frontotemporal dementia leads to loss of function in these brain regions, which variably cause deterioration in behavior, personality and/or difficulty with producing or comprehending language.
➡️There are a number of different diseases that cause frontotemporal degeneration. The two most prominent are 1) a group of brain disorders involving the protein tau and 2) a group of brain disorders involving the protein called TDP43. For reasons that are not yet known, these two groups have a preference for the frontal and temporal lobes that cause dementia.
➡️Frontotemporal dementia used to be called Pick's disease after Arnold Pick, M.D., a physician who in 1892 first described a patient with distinct symptoms affecting language. Some doctors still use the term "Pick's disease." Other terms you may see used to describe frontotemporal dementia include frontotemporal disorders, frontotemporal degeneration and frontal lobe disorders.
