Be safe everyone!

With an abundance of caution and safety for my Fellow Abaconians, I post the list of all Abaco Hurricane Shelters. There will be an official announcement of openings should this storm increase.

I urge those who may be in unsafe dwellings to please consider staying with Friends or Family while this system passes.

Abaco is expected to get lots of rain resulting in some flooding in low lying areas and TS force winds are possible. Conditions should start deteriorating in Abaco by Saturday morning so please have preparations in order.

It is , a time to make sure YOUR community is ready and we want to help. While you already likely know that hurricanes are deadly, you might not realize that it’s not always the storm itself that is the most dangerous. Find out what is ⬇️

We offer our condolences to Dr Farmer’s family and colleagues. He changed the world for the better, and that is an amazing legacy.

Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in Rwanda from an acute cardiac event while he was sleeping.

Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children.

Partners In Health CEO Dr. Sheila Davis released the following statement:
“Paul Farmer’s loss is devastating, but his vision for the world will live on through Partners in Health. Paul taught all those around him the power of accompaniment, love for one another, and solidarity. Our deepest sympathies are with his family.”

“What stands out most about this past year is the deployment to Haiti. There was one health facility we were working at in Duchity where the clinic had been completely destroyed and the nurse who ran the clinic was operating out of her home in her own living room. Every time we visited with medications and clinic staff to support her, the clinic was packed," says Cora Nally, Project HOPE's Country Director of The Bahamas.

This photo shows our team with the amazing Nurse Natasha, who worked tirelessly for her community, and advocated for them as well, sharing what resources she and her community needed with us.

“I will carry with me into 2022 the knowledge that we are all the same — some of us were just lucky to be born in places with more opportunity and access to things like education, safety, and health care. But we are no more deserving than anyone else," continued Cora. "I will continue to work toward a more equitable world — one where we all have equal access to life-saving medicine, safe schools for our children, and an opportunity to provide for our families.”

This past year, we reached 260,696 people with disaster response and humanitarian assistance, like in Haiti. You can help us double our impact for 2022, helping even more people, with a matched gift today: projecthope.org/doublemygift

"75 percent of deaths in The Bahamas are linked to noncommunicable diseases—like diabetes—which means that a lot of people are dying every year who don't have to," says Cora Nally, Project HOPE's Country Director for The Bahamas. "If they have more knowledge, then they have more power and can take more control over their own health."

Cora recently sat down with Deidre Moss to talk about diabetes awareness and how Project HOPE is working with communities to distribute this life-saving knowledge about NCDs: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=1297053980718354
